Eliana silently stared out the window of the house where the ghastly woman stood dressed in all black. Long white hair billowed behind her as she let out yet another scream.
Eliana frowned as she looked at the salt on the window. Eliana hoped the salt would keep the banshee out. She knew exactly what laid outside. Banshees were the harbingers of death. They only screamed to predict death and she had been out there for hours now.
Each hour she crept closer and closer to the house.
"She still there?" Eliana turned around to look at her boyfriend Carter. Eliana nodded as she turned back to the window.
"She keeps getting closer." Eliana said biting her lip as Carter came up behind her and wrapped his arms around her. He pressed a kiss to her cheek and smiled at her.
"The salt lines all around the house will keep her out, don't worry about it Eliana. Let's go to bed for now." Carter told her as he steered her away from the window. He glanced back glaring as the banshee slowly approached further and let out another ear-piercing wail.
Carter ushered Eliana into her room. He shut the door behind them and led Eliana over to the bed and helped her in before covering her with the comforter.
Carter leaned over and pressed kiss to Eliana's forehead.
"Get some sleep love. I'll be here all night." Carter told her with a smile as Eliana rolled over to fall sleep.

Eliana could hear the banshee's screams even in her sleep. Nowhere was safe from the anguish wail of the banshee. The banshee screamed all night in sorrow. Carter watched the banshee as it circled around the house wailing and crying.
All he desired was for the stupid thing to go. It was going to ruin everything with its warnings.
Carter stood up and went into the kitchen. He put some water on the stove before getting out a teabag. Once the teapot began making a whistling noise, he took it off and poured the water in and set the teabag in and let it sit.
Carter grabbed some honey and poured it in before his eyes settled on the box and he put a few drops in before going back to the room as he mixed the tea in to blend everything thoroughly. He walked in to where Eliana was curled up in bed.
"Eli." Carter went over and shook her awake as she jumped up. "Just me I brought you some tea." Carter said with a smile as she pushed herself up.
"What time is it?" Eliana asked.
Carter checked his phone. "Three in the morning." Carter answered.
Just as he went to hand her the tea another ear-piercing wail went off. Eliana backed up. "She sounds even closer." Eliana said as she got up out of bed.
"Eliana it's fine. She can't get in here." Carter said turning to Eliana as she went to the window.
She froze upon seeing the banshee only a yard away. "Carter she's right there." Eliana said as Carter came over and closed the blind as the banshee screamed again as he handed the mug to her.
"Everything is okay Eliana; just have some tea you'll feel much better." Carter told Eliana with a smile as he pushed the mug into her hands.
As Eliana grabbed it again the banshee screamed as she approached.
"Carter, she keeps getting closer." Eliana whined looking over at the woman in all black with her long white hair flowing behind her.
"It's fine Eli, just drink your tea." Carter insisted.
As Eliana raised the cup to her lips the banshee screeched as a crack appeared across the glass and Eliana stopped. The banshee had never been this loud. She would wail every now and then, but she is screaming even more now. . . ever since Carter tried giving her tea.
Eliana looked at Carter.
"What did you put in the tea?"
Carter looked over. "Honey, like always."
"Take a sip." Eliana said trying to hand it over to him.
"Eli just drink it." Carter sighed.
Eliana watched him as the banshee screamed again. Eliana looked back at the tea and then Carter who watched her. And then she threw the tea across his face and ran.
Carter screamed loud enough to match the banshee as the cup shattered and Eliana ran to the door. Carter collided with her and slammed her into the door.
"You fucking bitch!" Carter cussed as he slammed her again.
"It could have been peaceful for you, you stupid girl. You should have never broken my brother's heart." Carter looked over and grabbed a vase and smashed it before picking up a shard.
Eliana kicked him and ran into the kitchen screaming. Her screams matched the banshee who wailed louder and louder as Carter got up and chased her.
Eliana ran into the kitchen searching the drawers for some sort of weapon before she caught sight of her softball bat. She grabbed it and swung just as Carter came in carrying another shard.
Carter slammed into the window as Eliana ran at him and swung repeatedly until she could no longer recognize Carter. She stopped swinging when he stopped moving.
Eliana collapsed onto the floor as Carter's lifeless body fell on the floor next to her. Eliana looked up to where the banshee stared in silently. She had stopped screaming. She gave one nod to Eliana before disappearing.
Tears flowed down Eliana's face as she stared at the lifeless body of her boyfriend who had just attempted to end her life.
She crawled over to the counter and took down the house phone before dialing her mom's number.
"Mom, I need help." Eliana cried into the phone.
"Baby what's wrong?" Her mom asked.
"Carter. . . he tried to kill me. . . he's dead now." Eliana cried and her mom went silent.
"I'll be over in an hour don't leave." The phone went dead as Eliana curled in on herself as tears ran down her face and she cried having barely survived her harbinger.
994. Came close on the word count but this was incredibly fun to write. Originally, I was going to have Carter sacrifice himself but decided to have him be the reason the banshee was there. Either Eliana or Carter was going to die, and the prompt made Carter fall victim instead. ***
