It's been a few more weeks and you still haven't heard anything from Jaden and finally accepted that you probably wouldn't. Charli offered to bring it up to Nick, but you didn't want her to. Partly because you already knew the answer and also because Nick still hadn't made anything official with her and you didn't want to put her in the position.
You were laying in bed, alone in your dorm room one afternoon, trying to focus on a book when you closed your eyes and sighed in frustration. When you opened your eyes you came eye to eye with a big spider on your ceiling. You flew out of bed and across the hall to bang on Josh's door. What were guy friends for if not to slay any spider threats for you. When he opened the door you pushed your way into his room still flustered from the spider.
It occurred to you that you'd never actually been inside his room before. It was such a contrast from how Charli kept your dorm. There were clothes piled up on his roommates bed that looked like he hadn't slept there in days. You still hadn't met his roommate, but to hear Josh talk about him, he was an ass. Luckily he wasn't around much.

Back in your room Josh is teasing you about having had to kill the spider for you and you hit him with your pillow, laughing hysterically. You always had so much fun when you were with Josh. It was like the mistakes you made with boys up until this point never even happened and you just existed in this laughter-filled bubble.
He laid across your bed pretending to be hurt from the pillow-fight and the second you panicked and leaned across him, worried, he grabbed you and pinned you down laughing even harder. This was the third time he'd come dangerously close to kissing you and you weren't sure if you were imagining it or if he was just chickening out, but you made an excuse for him to stay longer.

You: "Wanna watch a movie?"
Josh: "Sure, my pick!"
He wrestled the remote away from you and puts on an action flick and lays back against your stomach, holding onto the pillow he'd stolen from your attack. Halfway through the movie you felt your phone vibrate under your pillow and sighed when you saw Vinnie's name pop up.

Josh: *looks up at you, sleepily* "Is it the boy, finally?"
You: *sighing* "No. It's my ex."
Josh: "The crazy one? Why don't you just block him?"
You: "I just feel bad because I promised I would try the whole being friends thing but it's just not working. He keeps coming for me over every little thing."
Josh: *taking your phone and setting it down* "Hey. You don't have to do that. Listen to me. Just block him. You get to move on and be happy."
Josh wrapped his arm across you and it felt so comforting that you finally worked up the nerve to block him. You laid in bed playing with his hair while you finished the movie. Josh has fallen asleep in your arms after an hour of playing with his hair. He looks so sweet curled up and wrapped around you. You can't help but wonder if Charli was right and maybe he does like you, but you've just been so badly hurt in the past you tell yourself it doesn't matter.
You had made up your mind that guys only want to hook up and when they turn it into a relationship it's only because they want to control you. You learned that lesson with Vinnie. He'd cheated on you 3 times and each time you were made to feel like you were overreacting and somehow ended up staying.
You look down at this messy brown hair spread across your bed and can't imagine him ever hurting you, but you just can't take that chance. That's the last thought you have before drifting off to sleep under the weight of his arm draped across your stomach.
