"I don't fucking believe this!" Finn yells, clenching his fists in frustration. "I can't fucking believe this is really happening right now."
He storms into the living room with so much anger, pacing back and forth in front of me while I'm seated on the sofa.
"Me neither. It feels like I'm in an actual nightmare." I murmur softly, taking a seat on the bed as I try and get my head around it.
"I always said Chase was a psychopath and now the psycho is dating my sister!" He groans, pacing back and forth as his anger increases.
"Look, Miranda is smart. She's going to see right through him eventually." I assure him, trying my best to sound convincing.
"So I'm just supposed to sit back and wait for him to screw her over?" Finn demands harshly, whirling around to confront me.
"I don't know, ok? I don't know what to say because I'm just as shocked as you are about this. I had no idea that Chase was the guy Miranda's been seeing." I remind him, shaking my head in disbelief.
"Are you sure about that?"
"Excuse me?"
"You heard me."
"You think I knew about this?!" I cry angrily, stunned by his revelation.
"I don't know but something isn't right here. There's something he's not telling us and I have to find out what it is."
"Finn, I can't believe you think I'd let Chase hurt Miranda. I'd never let anyone do that and you should know it."
"April, I'm sorry." He sighs deeply, apologising sincerely. "I didn't mean any of that but can't
believe he'd use her like that just to get back at us."
"He did tell me he has genuine feelings for her now. Chase said she's the reason he wanted to confess everything because he wants to be honest with her."
"We both know that's not true. The only person Chase cares about is himself. His twisted obsession with you has caused him to do some fucked up things in the past but nothing like this." Finn growls menacingly, his expression turning dark.
"Listen, all we can do is continue to be there for Miranda and keep on telling her what he's really like. She'll soon realise he's bad news soon enough."
"But he's dangerous. I don't want him anywhere near my sister, let alone be in a relationship with her."
"The only way we're going to beat him is by sticking together. He can't come between us if we don't let him." I say decidedly, willing it to be true.
"You're right." Finn agrees reluctantly, kneeling down in front of me. "I'm sorry for taking all my frustration out on you when I know you're not to blame for any of this."
"It's ok. You're just looking out for your sister."
Finn's phone pings and he reaches for it, reading the text message in front of him.
"Shit, I don't believe this." He snaps, throwing his phone across the room.
"What is it? What's wrong?"
"It's Miranda." He replies curtly. "She's invited us both out for dinner tomorrow night."
"That's good, isn't it? It means we can talk to her and explain everything properly. She'll see sense, Finn. I know she will."
"You don't understand." He says defeatedly, raking his fingers through his hair. "She's invited us to go out with them."
"Them as in...?"
"Her and Chase." He answers brusquely, exhaling slowly.
"You've got to be kidding me?"
"Do I look like I'm joking?"
"I can't believe this is really happening." I mutter, failing to process it all.
"Well it is." Finn concludes firmly. "So you better prepare yourself for it."
Neither one of us sleeps properly that night; tossing and turning for several hours before Finn finally decides to go downstairs and sleep on the sofa instead.
It's even worse when he leaves the bedroom as I'm left alone and that means I don't have to pretend anymore. I don't have to act like I'm coping because I'm not. The truth is I'm in absolute torment now Chase has entered our lives again.
He loves her.
He said he loves her.
I still can't believe it and hate myself for feeling upset about it in the first place. I haven't seen Chase in four years and I'm with Finn now. I'm happy with Finn and I can't let Chase jeopardise my relationship with him whatsoever.
Not this time.
I just wish I understood why I'm so torn up about the fact that he has feelings for Miranda. It's upset me so much and I can't stop picturing the look on his face when he told me.
It feels like he's tore me apart all over again and I don't know whether I'll want to cry or punch him the next time I see him.
Chase always brought the worst out in me and I hate him for that. I hate how he twists everything, manipulates me and somehow makes me out to be the villain no matter what he's guilty of. The best thing I ever did was leave him and I've tried so hard to forget him and put my past behind me.
Except now he's back. He's dating my best friend who is also my boyfriend's sister and he's part of my life all over again. I have no idea what's in store for us but it's terrifying to say the least.
I also can't ignore the undeniable excitement coursing through me now I've seen him again. Chase has ignited something inside me and it's dangerous. An unstoppable flame I can't seem to extinguish and if I'm being completely honest... I don't think I want to.
