I wake up the following morning and feel glorious sunshine on my face. Its warmth is heavenly and I can't keep myself from smiling as I roll over in bed towards Chase.

Except he isn't there.

His side of the bed is empty and I sit up at once as my heart begins to race.

Where is he?

I grab the first thing I can find and pull it over my head, realising it's one of his T-Shirts as my feet pad their way out of the bedroom and I poke my head into the hallway.
I'm about to call out for Chase when I hear a noise from downstairs. It's coming from the kitchen and I hurry towards it before my imagination gets the better of me.
"Chase?" I call out timidly, reaching the bottom of the stairs before entering the kitchen.
"What are you doing up? I was going to bring you breakfast in bed." He greets me warmly, smiling happily as I take a seat.
"I woke up and found you gone." I explain sleepily, yawning as I rub my eyes.
"Sorry, I just wanted to surprise you." He tells me, pausing for a few moments as his eyes roam the full length of my body. "Did I mention how incredible you look in my shirt?"
"Thanks." I laugh softly, raking my fingers through my tangled hair.
"So what do you fancy doing today? Anything in particular?" Chase asks cheerfully, serving up my breakfast as he joins me at the table.
"What can we do? Have you seen the amount of snow outside?"
It must have continued all night long after we fell asleep and there's now several inches of crisp white snow on the ground enclosing our cabin.
"Let's have a snow day then." Chase suggests, cheekily taking a bite out of my toast while I'm not looking.
"Oi!" I scold him gently, playfully swatting him with my hand. "What do you mean by a snow day?"
"You know... a day curled up in front of the fire, the occasional snowball fight if you're up for it." He challenges me flirtaciously, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
"I'm not sure. I know how competitive you can be." I joke, rolling my eyes at him.
"I'll go easy on you." He humours me, winking at me across the kitchen table.
"Unlike last night." I remind him, raising my eyebrows suggestively.
"Was I too rough?" He demands instantly, his voice full of concern. "You didn't say anything to me."
"Chase, I was kidding." I assure him. "Last night was perfect."
"Does that mean we can do it again?" He quizzes me, an expectant grin on his face which makes him appear boyish and adorable at the same time.
"Nice try." I tease him, ruffling his messed up hair. "Now let's get ready."

We spend a beautiful day together and neither one of us wants it to end. We enjoy a lazy breakfast before bundling ourselves up in warm clothing and head out for a walk.
I'm so grateful I brought everything with me when I left Finn; thankful for the boots I have with me so I'm able to venture out in the snow.

My thoughts circle back towards Finn throughout the day and wonder if I should switch my phone back on and actually talk to him. It's been turned off since we got here and I have no idea if he continued to call me or gave up completely.
We need to talk but that doesn't change the fact that our relationship is over. We've both betrayed each other and that's not something we can come back from. He's been fighting his attraction to his co-worker for months and I was never honest with him about my true feelings for Chase which never went away.
I use Chase's phone to call my mum and tell her I'll be away for a few days. She can tell I'm not being completely honest with her, but there's nothing I can do about that until I see her in person.
I've come to understand that I've kept far too many secrets from her over the years and we both need to start being more honest with each other.
I also get in touch with work to let them know it will be a few more days before I return. If I'm being completely honest with myself, I'm dreading going back. Working alongside Miranda after everything that's happened is going to be incredibly difficult.
She's going to be devastated by Chase breaking up with her and she'll never forgive me for going back to him. Part of me knows I need to accept that and make peace with the fact our friendship is over.
As for right now... I just want to enjoy my time alone with Chase. We both need to work on healing and repair the damage we've inflicted upon one another.
