The next few days are tumultuous to say the least. They're also extraordinary and wonderful and I'm left feeling rather drained by the end of it all.
Finn kept his promise and kindly moved out for a few days so I was free to come and go as I pleased to pack up the rest of my belongings in privacy.
I knew it would be quite emotional but didn't realise just how upsetting it would be to say goodbye to the place I've called home for the last few years. Sure, we had our problems like any normal couple but I'll always cherish the memories I had with Finn. I was completely broken when I first left Chase and Finn was there for me through all of it. He was kind as well as patient which I'll always appreciate and will value my friendship with him forever. Afterall, we were friends a long time before we became more than that.
"Is that the last of everything?" Chase asks me, jumping onto the bed as I gather the last of my things.
"I think so." I reply quietly, biting on my lower lip as I take one last look around my old bedroom. The one I once shared with Finn.
"I'm glad it's finally done." Chase sighs heavily, closing his eyes as he lies back. "I just want to get the hell out of here to be honest."
"I know you do and I'm sorry it's taken so long." I apologise sincerely, grateful he's been here to help me with it.
"Don't be silly. I know how important this is to you but honestly can't wait for us to just leave all this behind and start our lives together."
"I want that too but you can't begin a new chapter until you've finished the old one." I point out, taking a seat on the corner of the bed.
"That's true. How come you're so much smarter than I am?" He jokes, propping his head up so he can look at me directly.
"I actually worked hard at school and you didnt." I tease him, sticking my tongue out playfully.
"That's right, you did." He chuckles, shaking his head in amusement.
"While we're speaking about school and the past... you do know I'm going to have to explain all of this to Eric, don't you?" I tell him, raking my fingers through my hair.
"What do you mean?"
"We're still friends and he's hardly your biggest fan. He helped me disappear in the first place so I can't imagine what he's going to say when I tell him that we're back together."
"I knew that son of a bitch had something to do with it. He's always wanted you for himself." Chase growls disdainfully.
"Don't call him that. You don't know anything about Eric." I chastise him hastily.
"So why don't you enlighten me?" He challenges me dryly.
"Well, he's married for a start and has absolutely no romantic interest in me and never has."
"But you still think he'll take it badly?" He asks, frowning in confusion.
"Like I said, he's hardly your biggest fan, Chase. You were awful to him in school and terrified him into leaving."
"Well, you'll just have to convince him that I've changed." Chase replies casually, shrugging his shoulders as though it's no big deal.
"Maybe you should prove that to me first before I try and convince Eric." I emphasise strongly, raising my eyebrows at him.
"April, you haven't even mentioned him until now so you two can't be that close anymore." He fires back at me boldly.
"It's true we don't see that much of each other anymore." I concede truthfully. "He moved away once he got married but we still keep in touch as much as possible."
"I guess that's just something I'll have to get used to." Chase complains sourly, clearly not pleased about the idea.
"Yes, it is." I retort sharply, secretly enjoying the way he sulks when he's not happy about something.
"So... are we done yet? I'm starving and want to get the hell out of here."
"I have a couple more things to get out of the closet and then I'm done." I assure him, ruffling his hair as I attempt to get off the bed.
"I suppose we could still find something else to do while we're here." He suggests flirtaciously, a hint of excitement in his voice.
I know exactly what he's referring to and shake my head in disbelief. The fact he expects me to have sex with him in the same bed I shared with Finn is unfathomable.
"Chase..." I warn him, still shaking my head in defiance.
"Look, I know this is going to sound really weird but all I can think about right now is fucking you on his bed." He admits, circling his arms around my waist as he pulls me on top of him.
"Chase, Stop!" I scold him, slapping his bands away. "We can't do this here."
"Come on... I know you want to. How many times have you fantasied about me in here?" He demands roughly, pinning my body to the bed as he grabs hold of my wrists.
"Far too many." I confess quietly, my voice barely above a whisper. "But that doesn't mean we're going to have sex on Finn's bed."
"Just once." He begs me, trailing his lips across my collarbone. "Please."
He presses his body against mine and I can feel how turned on he is. The fact I can illicit such power over him has always been mind boggling to me.
"Why are you so desperate to do it here?" I challenge him, wanting to know if it's a just a final "fuck you" aimed at Finn.
"Because I want to erase every single memory you have of him. I want to replace every night you spent together and eliminate him from your mind forever." He discloses honestly, not afraid to hold back or offend me.
"Chase, it's over with Finn. We said goodbye and we're moving on. Why do you think you're here helping me pack up all my stuff? It's so I can move forward and be with you. There's no need to feel threatened by Finn anymore."
"I'm not threatened by him." Chase scoffs derisively, rolling his eyes at me. "But I have always been jealous."
"There's no need to be." I soothe him, stroking my fingers across his face. "Nothing has ever compared to you and what we have together."
"Ok, now you're making me want to do it even more." He groans loudly, burying his face against my neck.
"You can have me as soon as we get home but definitely not here. It would be disrespectful to Finn and I'm not doing that." I argue firmly, refusing to budge on the matter. "He was decent enough to go away for a few days so I could come by and get my things and he didn't have to do that."
"Alright, let's stop talking about him." Chase agrees hastily. "You just mentioned that I can have you when we get home but where is that exactly? We've been staying at my apartment for the last few days but can't say I want us to stay there indefinitely. I only rented that apartment so I could be closer to you but it's not exactly ours."
"I feel the same but we can't just throw money away staying at a hotel when we can be in the apartment you're already paying for." I point out, realising how irrational that would be.
"What about our old place, April? We were happy there and I'm sure we could be again." He suggests optimistically, a hopeful expression on his face.
"We were until Louise waltzed into our lives and wrecked it all." I complain indignantly, failing to conceal my bitterness.
"She managed to break us back then but we should never have let her." Chase reminds me, a strong and resolute tone in his voice. "We're both at fault for letting her manipulate us but we're together now and no one will ever come between us again, least of all her."
"I... just don't know if there's too many memories back there." I admit, trying to imagine what it would be like to start over.
"We spent six years together before she fucked us up and besides... Billy's still there and I need to be close to him." Chase reasons gently.
"I know." I acquiesce reluctantly. "I'm not trying to come between that, I promise. I just don't think I can be a part of it right now. Not yet."
"I get that and I understand." He whispers, placing a kiss on my forehead. I'm not going to force you to do anything you don't want to."
"I realise that none of this will be easy but I'm ready for anything if it means I get to be with you." I tell him, lovingly tracing my finger across his lips.
"So let's do it." He murmurs, excitement in his voice and a twinkle in his eyes.
"Do what?"
"Let's really go home and finally start living our lives. I promise you that nothing will ever separate us again."
