The Watcher
God, she's beautiful.
Unbelievably beautiful and she's all mine.
Well, she soon will be.
I watch them leave the cabin they've been staying at and creep out of the shadows as they pull away in their car.
Knowing the property is now empty, I decide to take a look around. Hoping I can find a way to break in and steal a look inside.
Taking a seat in one of the old rocking chairs on the front porch, I sit there until it gets dark. Planning my next move as I consider all my options moving forward.
The woodland noises coming from the forest grow louder and louder, increasing with intensity as they surround me completely. My anger starts to boil over and I'm consumed with rage. Hot, scorching, vengeful rage.
How dare she forgive that piece of filth? The same piece of shit who put me in hospital all those years ago?
How dare she betray her own father?
I stroke my beard in an attempt to self-soothe and leap out of my seat, pacing back and forth as my mind struggles to process everything I've been forced to witness over the last few days.
Seeing the two of them together made me physically sick and images of April holding his hand, touching him and kissing him pollute my mind as I go over it again and again.
I've spent so long imagining what it would be like to see her again and have her back in my life but nothing could ever have prepared me for what it felt like to see her with him.
She's just so beautiful.
I've missed her so much these past few years, trying to track her down and couldn't believe my luck when the private investigator that I hired managed to locate her.
He gave me with her work address and it didn't take him too long to figure out where she was living either.
I followed her a few times, I just couldn't keep my distance any longer. Using the cover of darkness, I hid in the shadows and watched.
I'm sure she must have sensed something a couple of times as she actually froze and turned around; peering into the darkness as I held my breath.
Thank God she didn't see me.
Exhaling against the pane of glass on the back door, I draw a love heart on the window and write her name inside it.
April.
It was my idea to give her that name and it means a lot to me that she never went on to change it. It proves I'm still in her heart and we're still connected.
April was the only reason I ever stayed in that miserable marriage of mine and she's the only reason I'd ever risk it all to come and find her again.
The fact that she's still with the son of a bitch who almost killed me is unbelievable but I can't get too angry with her. April was always weak willed and easily persuaded. The bastard must have some sort of hold over her but now I'm here to rescue her and we can be together again.
I can't even blame April for believing all the lies she was told about me. They've all brainwashed her against me and she'll just need some time to accept that I'm the only one who really cares for her and knows what's best.
April's the only one I've ever love and I've come to reclaim her. She belongs with me and the fact that I won't have to wait much longer until we're together again fills me with indescribable joy.
I have to protect her.
"Soon." I whisper, tapping the love heart with her name inside it. "We'll be together soon, April."
And this time it will be forever.
