"That isn't funny, April." Chase tells me, shaking his head as though he's disappointed in me.
"Chase, I'm not joking." I assure him, observing his reaction.
"This has to be some kind of wind up." He says, struggling to understand what's going on.
"Why do you say that?"
"April, you took a pregnancy test and it was negative. We haven't even had sex since then so how do you expect me to believe that you're pregnant now?"
"It must have been too early to detect when I first took it. That can happen sometimes."
"But you told me you didn't want a baby. You said you never wanted to have kids."
"And that's what I thought at the time but... it's happened now. It's completely different now there's an actual baby in here." I reveal, placing a hand on my stomach.
"I can't take any of this in." He sighs deeply. "I can't seem to think straight."
"Chase, calm down." I soothe him, taking both his hands in mine so he's forced to look at me. "This happened for a reason. We can handle whatever comes next."
"Y-you're really pregnant?" He stammers, staring into my eyes intently.
I can see the fear in his own and there's a flicker of doubt. He can't bring himself to believe it and there's a huge part of me that wants to take it all back... erase the last few weeks and confess everything to him. Except I can't.
"I'm really pregnant." I confirm, nodding my head.
"So... you took another test while I was away?"
"I took one last night and another one this morning just to make sure." I chuckle, rolling my eyes.
"Can I see them? I think I need to see it with my own eyes."
"I threw them away." I explain readily. "I'm sorry."
"How far along do you think you are?"
"Just a few weeks. It's still really early so we can't tell anyone yet."
"And you want it? You really want the baby?" He asks, placing both hands on my shoulders.
"Of course I do! I'm so happy about this and I was hoping you'd feel the same way."
"April, I do! There's nothing I want more. Please believe that."
"So you're just shocked?" I quiz him. "Because your reaction wasn't that great."
"I'm more than shocked." He admits, exhaling slowly. "I still can't believe it."
"Do you like the little playsuit I had made? I ordered it online."
He takes it from me, staring in amazement as he tries to process everything.
"How did it get here on time if you only took a test last night?" He quizzes me, still a little dubious.
Shit. I didn't think he'd ask me that and my mind races for an answer, grasping the first thing I can think of on the spot.
"I've had a feeling I was for quite some time." I explain, struggling to find the right words. "I just felt different but wanted to make sure before I said anything to you."
"This is incredible." He murmurs, pulling me towards him. "I'm going to be a dad! We're actually going to have a baby, April!"
"You're going to be a great dad." I tell him, wanting to convince him.
"You really think so?" He asks, his voice optimistic but still nervous.
"I know you will be."
"So what do we do now? Do we go to the doctor?"
"I'll phone up and make an appointment but it's still really early so they won't be able to tell us much for quite some time."
He places a kiss on my hand and frowns, glancing down at my finger when he realises my engagement ring is missing.
"Where's your ring?" He questions me, refusing to let go of my hand.
"I took it off to wash my hair. I must have forgot to put it back on." I tell him, scolding myself for being so careless.
"I don't like seeing you without it." He sulks, tucking my hair back behind my ear.
"I just didn't want to damage it." I assure him, walking to my bedside cabinet so I can retrieve it.
I slip it back on, realising I have to be more careful when it comes to wearing it around Chase.
"Can I?" He asks, hesitantly resting his large hand against my stomach.
"You don't need to ask." I tell him, fighting the urge to pull away from him.
"You know I love you, don't you?"
"Of course I do."
"I'll take care of you both forever." He promises me, a solemn expression on his face and a determined look in his eye.
"I know you will. I don't doubt you, Chase."

We go to bed shortly after but he can't sleep. He spends the next few hours tossing and turning before he finally gives up and leaves the bedroom. He's no doubt wondering what the hell he's going to do now he's got two kids on the way by two different women.
I feel another pang of guilt as I consider checking on him but quickly change my mind. Chase has done this to himself. His own lies brought him here and now he has to face the consequences.
No matter what it costs me...

"I might be home a little late tonight." Chase tells me the following day, refusing to look me in the eye.
"Is everything alright?"
"Work is pretty stressful at the moment but I'll be ok." He assures me, placing a kiss on my forehead. "Are you sure we can't tell people yet? I can't wait to see the look on Finn's face when he finds out you're pregnant."
"No!" I blurt out, horrified by the idea. "I don't want anyone to know yet. There's so much that can still go wrong and I want to be cautious."
"Nothing will go wrong." Chase whispers, trailing his thumb across my bottom lip. "I still can't wait to rub it in his face though."
"Be nice." I warn him, pointing my finger at his chest.
"Only to you." He winks, grabbing the last of his things for work.

He's only been gone half an hour when my phone rings. I rush back upstairs so I can reach it in time but don't check to see who is calling first.
"Hello?"
"What the hell is going on?!" Louise screams down the phone at me. "I've just had Chase tell me he's had second thoughts about the baby and I should go ahead with the abortion! What am I supposed to do now?!"
"He said that? What else did he say?" I ask her, wondering if he told her about my pregnancy.
"He just said he couldn't keep on lying to you and it wouldn't be fair bringing a baby into the middle of all of this. What's made him change his mind?!" She cries loudly, clearly upset and shaken up by his revelation.
"Leave it with me. I'll sort it out. Just make sure you're free this Friday."
"What for? What's happening on Friday?"
"A party at our house and you're invited. You'll be the guest of honour." I tell her, gripping my phone tightly.
"You're mental. You've actually lost your mind." She replies harshly, running out of patience.
"Do you want to be with Chase or not?" I snap, struggling to stay calm.
"You know I do."
"So shut up and do what I say. All you have to do is keep quiet and turn up on Friday. He'll be all yours after that."
"Why should I trust you? None of this is working out like you said it would. I swear to God if you're lying to me you're going to regret it." She threatens me darkly. "You've been warned."
I hang up the phone and smile, pleased my plan to manipulate them both seems to be working. Chase went straight to Louise and told her to get rid of their baby as soon as he found out he's having one with me. Of course it's all lies but he doesn't know that and neither does she. I've screwed with him to the best of my ability and now I can sit back, relax and watch the fireworks.
Louise really was delusional to think their fictitious baby actually mattered to him. She really thought he would stick by her and eventually develop feelings for the mother of his child like she predicted he would. I can't wait for her to find out how little he actually cares for her. She doesn't matter to him and she never will but he still jeopardised our entire relationship by sleeping with her and I don't care why he did it or what excuses he has because I can't forgive him. I can't forgive his betrayal or the fact he lied to me about it over and over again.

I've decided the perfect location for my big reveal will be our own house. It's the reason I planted the seed of wanting an engagement party here and that has to go ahead. A surprise party provides me with the ideal venue to bring everything out into the open and it's an opportunity I can't miss. I want everyone we know to witness his public humiliation and find out what a selfish cheat he really is.

I'm going to expose him and take it all back from him. My dignity, my self-respect and most importantly... my heart.

Because I never should have given it to him in the first place.
