Two days earlier...
"April, are you sure about this?" Finn asks hesitantly, his voice uncertain and full of doubt. "You can always change your mind. We don't actually have to go through with this."
I observe him setting up the camera and fix it into position, shaking my head vehemently.
"Don't be silly." I encourage him. "It was my idea in the first place."
"I know that but we still don't have to. I'm not forcing you into anything." He points out, turning round to face me directly.
"Are... you saying you don't want to?"
"Of course I do." He replies confidently, placing both his hands on my shoulders. "I'd never turn down an opportunity to make out with you but I have to admit... it's not exactly how I thought our first kiss would go."
"I understand and we really don't have to do it if it makes you uncomfortable. I just know that it will hurt Chase more than anything else I plan on doing to him. He might be able to forgive the fact that I've lied to him and the fact that I'm not actually pregnant but he'll never be able to get the image of me and you out of his head. It will eat away at him forever."
"Well, you already know how I feel about Chase." Finn reminds me bitterly, his jaw clenched. "I have no issue whatsoever about pissing him the fuck off."
"So, you're ok with doing this then?"
"I'd just like to know that we might still have a future at some point. I don't just want this to be your ultimate revenge on Chase."
I understand what Finn is saying and feel a pang of guilt for involving him in all of this. Our friendship was never based on deceit and I really don't want my need for payback to jeopardise one of the few things that was pure in my life.
"Finn, it's far too early for me to even think about dating someone else." I admit, sighing deeply. "I've been with Chase for six years and that's a long time to share your life with someone."
"Hey, it's ok and I totally get it." He reminds me gently. "It was the same for me when I broke up with Mia. It takes time to adjust."
"Exactly and I think we both need to take our time with this and just enjoy getting to know each other again."
"You've got yourself a deal." He jokes, grinning at me mischievously.
"Is the camera set up to record yet? I don't actually think we need to do that much to make Chase jealous. You know how possessive he's always been."
"He's a lunatic for sure." Finn snaps harshly. "There's no other way of putting it."
"We best hurry as we need to get on with this before he gets back."
"Do whatever you like to me." Finn teases flirtatiously, enjoying every moment as he hits record and takes a seat on the sofa in front of me.
"You just need to act like you can't resist me." I instruct him, standing like a statue as I try to get my head around what I should do next.
"I won't be acting, April. You know I'm already crazy about you." He assures me, keeping his eyes locked on my own.
The tension in the room is unbearable as Finn reaches out and takes hold of my hand, pulling me towards him.
"I'm actually nervous." I confess, biting on my lower lip. "I've never kissed anyone other than Chase before."
"I'm happy to change that." Finn whispers, leaning in towards me.
His hand makes its way round the back of my neck as his fingers start to caress my skin. It's enough to make me tremble and I inhale sharply. His lips meet with mine and his tongue reaches out, stroking my bottom lip as I let out a little moan.
I suddenly remember that we're actually being recorded and I've got to make it seem convincing. This isn't supposed to look like it's our first kiss and it needs to be more passionate, as though we can't keep our hands off each other.
I kiss him back fiercely, taking him by surprise as I decide to take control. My goal is to show Chase what an actual betrayal feels like and need it to cause as much pain as possible.
It's his turn to find out what heartbreak feels like.
I end up straddling Finn while he grabs the back of my head, deepening our kiss. I rest my hand against his chest, slowly starting to unbutton his shirt as my hand slips inside it.
Finn starts pulling at my own clothes and I almost let him when I realise that what we're doing will ultimately be broadcast to a whole bunch of people.
"That should be enough." I gasp, breaking away from him as I bring an end to our kiss. "We should stop the camera."
"Are you sure?" He groans reluctantly, trailing several kisses down my neck. "I think we could go a few extra minutes."
"We need to stop." I remind him, chuckling lightly as I pull away.
Finn relents and exhales slowly, switching off the camera before sitting back down on the couch beside me.
"I'm not complaining but I have to ask what happened to you saying you'd never cheat on Chase? You were adamant you wouldn't do it."
"I guess I realised just how badly I need to hurt him. There's a chance that Chase might actually forgive everything I've done so far because he's treated me so badly in the past. I need to figure out a way I can truly hurt him like he's hurt me."
Fin nods his head slowly, taking my hand in his.
"Come here." He urges kindly, pulling me in for a hug.
"Thank you for going along with all of this and for being so understanding." I thank him, squeezing him tightly.
"April, you don't need to thank me. I'd do anything for you."
"And you'll still set everything up for me on Friday? I'm pretty useless when it comes to technology."
"I'll take care of it." He promises calmly. "Trust me."
"I do." I reply earnestly. "More than the man I'm actually living with, which says a lot."
"I'm also going to need the footage of them together." Finn explains awkwardly, sounding uncomfortable about such a request.
"It's on my phone." I tell him, feeling sick at the thought of it. "I'll send it to you later."
"How did you end up with it in the first place?" Finn enquires hesitantly. "I thought Louise had it and just showed it to you?"
"She sent it to me." I inform him, remembering how hard it was to convince her to do that.
"Wow, that was classy of her." He replies scathingly.
"She's willing to do anything to get a hold of Chase." I explain sombrely. "It's kind of sad when you think about it."
"Only someone as kind hearted as you could feel sorry for someone like her right now." Finn remarks, shaking his head in disbelief.
"I'm not saying I feel sorry for her but she must be out of her mind obsessed with him to put herself through all this." I rationalise out loud, still trying to get my own head around it.
"I best get going." Finn says, grabbing the camera on his way out.
"Thank you for everything." I whisper softly, walking him to the front door. "I really appreciate it."
"It will all be over soon." He assures me. "I promise."
"I won't be able to stay round here once the truth comes out and all of this blows up in my face." I point out frankly, dragging my fingers through my hair. "You know what Chase is like and there's no way he'll let me go."
"So what are you going to do? Go on the run forever?"
"I have no idea." I respond quietly, contemplating all my options for the thousandth time. "All I know is I have to get away from him before he destroys me completely. There's no other choice."
"I'm so proud of you, April." Finn sighs deeply. "I really am."
"Don't say that." I warn him, refusing to accept his compliment. "You still have no idea what I'm capable of."
