It was a very hot evening at the campsite, and the fire wasn't even lit.
It must've been summer outside of the realm and the heat must've somehow gotten here.
Noone expected it. Some survivors enjoyed the heat, taking a nap in the sudden warmness, some were struggling to keep cool. Just like you were. Claudette was probably the one that was getting overheated though. Cherryl, Jake and Nancy came back from the trial, torn on all places, ready to get patched up by the healers. You could see that Claudette needed a break. Really bad. And you had just the perfect solution for it. You got up from your log, going to talk to her.

"Hey, Clau, we need to talk" You sighed, squatting next to her. "All ears hun" She quickly turned her head to you from bandaging a wound.
"Hey, Jane?" You looked at Jane who was washing Nancy's leg slash.
"You think you could handle it alone here for... half an hour maybe?" You looked at your broken watch. An old habit. "Well, dear Claudette did all the work for me, so of course" Jane smiled at you, looking at Claudette.
"(Y/n) why are you aski-" The small girl went to question, before you yanked her up and started leading her away.
Jane knew there were some small sparks going on between you two, and she was always on and about helping with relationships.

"You're overworking yourself again Clau" You looked back at her, smiling lightly. "Yeah but people need help-" She went to protest again, but you shushed her. "No no no, you're getting a break" You said, leading her into the dead woods.
"The more you work, the worse the outcome will be... you don't want that do you?" You asked after a while, walking through some bushes.
"Yeah no... you're right..." She sheepishly scratched the back of her neck, thinking of past problems.
You stepped over some dead logs and twigs, going around bushes and trees, all with Claudette following you.
"So, question, where are you dragging me to?" She smiled, a tiny, almost invisible red on her face.
"Oh you're gonna love it, I promise you" You said, moving some bushes out the way.

You continued like this for a while, sometimes having small talk with the small girl. It was hard to talk, given that you both were struggling to catch breath from the heat and heavy air.

"Right, here we are..." You said, stepping aside a tree, with Claudette still following.
"Where- whoa" She was about to ask, when she got shutted up my the scenery before you two.
It was a pond, with deep dark water.
The moon's reflection bathed in it, as some fireflies flew high above the water.
"Whoa, how come I've never seen this place?" Claudette stepped foward, looking around. She was a sucker for nature and loved to study all new places and plants as much as possible.
As she aproached the water, you took off your shirt, moving to your pants. Claudette paid no mind as she was busy with looking into the deep water.

"Do you think it has a botto-" she was about to question before she was cut off by your loud footsteps and a scream, followed by splashing water.
You sprinted past her, taking a wild jump into the cool dark.
"(Y/N)!! ARE YOU ALRIGHT?! ARE YOU INSANE?" Morel yelled at you worriedly. You could only hear a muffled scream under the water.
You swam to the surface, wiggling your head dry.
"Why don't you come down and check?" You laughed, keeping still in the water.
It was very warm from the heat, but still refreshing.
"Oh absolutely not! You're crazy!" She imidiately refused.
You knew this was gonna need some convincing.
"Oh come on, I dragged you out here to cool off, and you're gonna leave me hanging down here?" You said with a smile, getting a head wiggle from the girl. "I'm not going in the water" She said, as if it was her final.
"Why not? I just want a reason" You asked, swiming a little back.
"I'm... I'm scared" She said, smiling nervously.
"Of jumping?"
"Yeah"
"What if I catch you?" You suggested, getting silence in response.
"(Y/n), are you naked?" She asked, concerned.
"No! Dinner first before I undress in front of a girl like you!" You laughed, getting a nervous giggle back.

"So... you say you'll catch me?" She asked one more time, before standing up from the ledge.
"Yep, scout's honor!"
"You're not a scout..."
"Uhh... honor!" You said, getting a smiling scoff from her.
She got up, walking away from the ledge.
"Alright... coming!" She yelled before she took all her bravery and ran towards the edge, leaping off.
You swam back, as to not get hit by her.
"(Y/N)!–" She yelled angrily right before she dove deep underwater.
You didn't catch her.
It'd be dangerous for both of you, plus it was funny to see her mad.

She swam up, smacking the water surface, so you'd get splashed all over.
"You- dumb!" She didn't swear, and only splashed more water on you.
"Sorry! Sorry! Please stop!" You laughed, coughing from the amount of water.
"You're an- a liar!" Clau said, supressing a smile.
"I'm sorry alright? It'd be dangerous to catch you" You said, trying to calm her down.
"Water feels nice no?" You put on a dumb smile, getting a sigh out her.

"Yeah..." She brushed her, now free, dreads, letting them float on the water. It was a content moment of silence.
"You should wear your hair untied like this" You said, motioning to your own hair as you floated on the water.
"You think?"
"Yeah, pleasant change" You smiled. Claudette nervously played with one of her dreads.
"Thanks, I wore it back because of work and I felt a little out of place. It's nice to hear you say that" She sheepishly smiled, letting the dread float away.

You two chatted for a bit more before getting out of the cool water. You dried up a bit, talking about how cool it would be to have some ice-cream right about now.
You took your clothes and went back to the camp fire, Claudette holding your hand shyly, on the way.

She wore her dreads free after that.
Jane tried to crank you open about what happened, but you always smugly dodged the question.
