18 - Missed Him

I dropped my spoon and asked, "What?"

Ryler seemed confused, while Adrien, on the other hand, seemed nervous. I think he didn't know that I was half-Filipina.

"I... I'm sorry. Please just pretend you didn't hear that." Adrien apologized.

Seems like he figured out what happened.

He gulped, probably not knowing what to say in this situation. "It's true... what he said is true." Ryler whispered.

I was shocked, truly. I knew Ryler was interested in me, as a rival in the industry, that is! If he didn't see me as a rival, I would've thought that he just saw me as some sort of inspiration... not that he liked me!

No, I wasn't disappointed, nor was I angry... it was just too fast for me to believe. It was a hard pill to swallow. But still, having him like me was problematic.

Tumayo ako sa inuupuan, "I'm sorry... I've got to go," I excused myself.

"It's fine... she would probably know soon anyways," was the last thing I heard of Ryler before I shut the shop's door close.

I hate that it's like this. Ryler... him liking me was unimaginable. People know of the tension between us. Alam nilang parang aso't pusa na kami. They know that we don't like each other, but we also don't hate each other... we're just... parallel lines, we never intersect.

When I arrived home, dumiretso ako sa kwarto at humiga sa kama. Thank goodness no one's in the house except for the maids.

Right. I will go back to the Philippines later. It will be fine.

Was what I thought, but Ryler was already inside the house. Seems like the people in here are close enough with him to trust him. And it also seems like I've got no other choice but to talk to him.

Dalawang linggo pa naman ako mananatili sa Pilipinas and dragging this any further would just cause not just Ryler but also me more damage.

"Yara, let's talk," he said.

Tumango ako sa sinabi niya, "Yeah, we should."

He drove us to the park. We decided to talk while having a walk and so that's what we did.

"Ah... Yara, about what I said earlier, and what Adrien said as well..." he started.

I didn't bother to answer, it'd be better if he's the only one who talks right now. He can listen to my thoughts later.

This way, we can talk freely.

He took a deep sigh, "How should I start? I, uh... I liked you since you moved in next door. Maybe it's because you were pretty, or maybe it's because you've got a great voice, or maybe it's because you've got a heart of gold. Truth is, I don't even know why I like you. I just do," he explained.

So, he liked me since then, huh? Seems like we both sort of have the same experience over someone. The difference is, I'm the one he had this experience with, but me... I experienced it with another man-- Blaze.

He rocked back and forth while paying with his legs. "Yara, if... if I did my best to suit your tastes, would I get a chance?"

I looked away. The sun was starting to set and the beams of orange sunlight had his his pitiful face. He looked like he was full of life, but also at the brink of death. He looked hopeful, but at the same time, hopeless. His eyes had a mixture of hapiness and sadness.
