Weiss POV

After I lost the summoning duel against Winter, she spoke to me in a slightly warmer tone than usual.

Winter: Your technique still has those maddening, sloppy touches. But, you've learned how to make them work for you. You've made them your own.

Weiss: Wow, that was very close to a compliment.

Winter: I didn't intend it that way.

Weiss: We all make mistakes I guess.

She let out a soft laugh.

Winter: You've grown up a bit, haven't you? You're not the little girl clinging to the family name anymore.

Weiss: Since Beacon, I haven't really had a choice. Father's view of the world no longer matches with mine. I no longer want to be seen as just the SDC heiress. I'm now pursuing a higher calling.

Winter: Whatever the case, I am glad to see you've moved on. Distancing myself from the Schnee name is the most beneficial thing I've ever done. We can move forward without him... together. I know General Ironwood would have a place for you.

She placed a hand on my shoulder, I then looked down slightly.

Weiss: I would be grateful to him is he did... but, I'm not sure I could accept.

Winter: Really?

Weiss: It's just... Our kingdom isn't supposed to be like this. Fearful and withdrawn. We should be opening our borders to help the world, not closing them down.

Winter: We will though. Once we've weathered the storm, we will. I know the general hasn't done everything perfectly, but he's doing what he thinks is right.

Weiss: Everyone thinks what they're doing is right. But usually, they're just looking out for themselves... and their secrets. I'm not sure I could be a part of that. I've already learned so much as a Jedi, and I don't want to give that up.

Winter: Ironwood isn't keeping secrets... not from me.

Weiss: Can you be sure?

Meanwhile in Mantle

3rd Person POV

Watts was once again changing locations. Walking through the streets of Mantle, umbrella and briefcase in hand. He scanned the area more than usual. He couldn't help but have this lingering feeling that he was being watched.

Tyrian on comms: Make sure to not kill that old man if you run into him. I want to kill him myself.

Watts: If I can, I will take it into consideration-

Something in the corner of Watts' eye caught his attention. He turned his head to the opposite sidewalk. He immediately saw the recognizable face of Steele Lockharte. The man was walking in the opposite direction on the opposite sidewalk. Steele looked at him with a menacing grin, but made no attempts to attack him. Time seemed to slow as the two looked at each other. Eventually, after the distance between them grew, they looked away from each other.

Tyrian on comms: What is it?

Watts: We have some unexpected company.

Tyrian on comms: Is it the kid again? That bastard took my tail!

Watts: He's not a kid anymore. We should try to be more cautious. One small mistake can easily be the end of us.

Small timeskip

Weiss POV

After my time with Winter, I was assigned to an investigative mission in Mantle. Two bodies were discovered on a smaller side street near the edge of the city. Seeing the scene saddened me a bit, but there was nothing much I needed to do, so I decided to ask the investigators some questions.
