The Guardian's Tale (AOT fanfiction)

-The 104th Cadet Corps pt.2-

"Sorry but I don't think there are any tricks to just hanging there." Reiner said as he crossed his arms. "I can't think of any especially helpful advice either."

"You three are uhm...from Shiganshina aren't you ?" Bertholdt asked, hesitant. "Then you know how terrifying the Titans are. So why do you want to be soldiers ?" His eyes lingered on my neck.

"Unlike Eren and Yuki, I didn't witness the titan threat firsthand." Armin replied. "It's just...I decided I couldn't sit there and do nothing after the royal government forced people into that awful retrieval operation. Where are you two from ?" He then asked.

"Reiner and I are from a mountain village on the southeast side of wall Maria." Bertholdt replied.

"H-Hang on...wasn't that..." I stuttered.

He then nodded and explained what had happened that day and how they didn't get word right away. He told us that we weren't like "Them." The people who had not seen titans. Reiner stopped him, pointing out that there were other people around and we put on our cloaks and walked outside. We stopped on the edge of a cliff and we watched as the clouds moved to reveal the moon.

"Y-Your eyes..." Reiner pointed out. "They're glowing even more."

I simply smiled at him and looked up at the moon, letting its light hit my hair and make my white strand more obvious. When I looked over at Reiner, I saw him blush and look away. I let out a small giggle and gently grabbed his hand.

"Stand here." I said softly as I led him to where I previously stood.

The moonlight hit his skin perfectly and made his strange eyes shine. I felt like I had met him before. Like I owed him something but I didn't know what.

The next day, Eren got to try his hand at balancing again. I watched closely as I stood between Reiner and Bertholdt, anxious. I smiled and threw my fist up in the air. HE DID IT ! My celebration was cut short when he fell back and hit his head again. What ? But he had succeeded just seconds ago. Then, to all of our surprises, commander Keith let him down and ordered the soldier next to Eren to switch belts with him. As soon as they switched, he balanced perfectly like he had done this his whole life and I let out a relieved sigh. That's when the Commander announced something that made us all gasp in aw and shock. The belt he had on previously had a broken clasp. NO WAY ! He managed to balance with broken equipment ?! He truly was something else. Bertholdt and Reiner each gave me a high five and I smiled at Mikasa.

It had been a few days since Eren had passed the aptitude test and now we had been working more with the ODM gear. I felt the cool breeze hit my face as I glided through the trees as if I had wings.

"HEADS UP HORSE FACE !" I yelled as I swooped down and slashed one of the fake titan's nape. "Phew that makes 13 kills." I sighed as I landed on a tree branch. 

"THAT WAS MINE !" Jean protested. 

"Oh yeah ? I'll make sure to feed you to the next one then slow poke ! I'm sure that they love horses. " I grinned.

I then flew off to find more prop titans. I found a group of them but spotted 5 people hiding in branches. I had to be quicker. I weaved through the trees and slashed 3 titans' napes as they took the others. That made 16. I made eye contact with Commander Keith and shuddered. This man always gave me the creeps.

For hand to hand combat, I was paired with Bertholdt. He was the rogue and therefore he had the knife so I had to be careful. He charged at me with the knife heading straight for my neck. I slipped under it and punched his stomach. He fell down and I grabbed the knife, holding it to his throat. He tried to grab my leg but I stepped on his wrist and grabbed the other one with my free hand.

"Oww okok I give up." He whined as I helped him get up. "Jeez where'd you learn to punch like that ?" He tried to distract me.

I felt the knife slip out of my hands and I placed both of my hands on the ground and kicked his chest. I wasted no time and slipped behind him, grabbing both of his arms and pinning them on his back. I then pressed my knee on his back, forcing him to get on his knees. I grabbed the knife with my teeth, let his arms go and kicked him down. I then took the knife out of my mouth and grinned.

"Nice try Bertholdt but not good enough." I mocked, slightly poking my tongue out of my mouth.

"Oh you are SO dead !" He joked as he grabbed me and rubbed the top of my head with his knuckles.

"OKOK I GIVE UP !" I said in between giggles.

"Hey if you two are done I'll take on the lady." Reiner said, walking towards us. "I'll be the rogue."

I nodded, threw him the knife and got into my fighting stance. My eyes quickly scanned his body and posture. He was strong and he knew that. Probably stronger than the average 17 year old male. I was way smaller and more frail than him so there was no using force. He charged at me, the knife heading for my stomach. I jumped up and tapped my hand on his shoulder to give myself more of a push. I landed behind him in a crouching position and used that to kick his ankles, throwing him off balance. However, he turned around, grabbed my wrists and pinned me down.

"Looks like you lost princess." He grinned. "W-What are you doing...?" He asked, surprised as I moved my face closer to his, about to kiss him.

As soon as I felt the pressure on my wrist get lighter, I kicked his stomach, grabbed the knife from the floor and held it to his neck. I locked his arm so that if he made a single movement it would break and placed my foot on his other one. 

"Jeez when'd you learn to fight like that Golden Eyes ?" Marco asked, coming up behind me.

"My brother." I smiled and let go of Reiner. "But Reiner isn't that hard to beat either." I teased.

"I'm gonna KILL YOU !" He joked as he got up and started running after me, followed by Bertholdt. 

"HEY I BEAT YOU GUYS FAIR AND SQUARE !" I cried out, running from the 2 boys as I heard people laugh.
