The Guardian's Tale (AOT fanfiction)

The man immediately put a blindfold over my eyes and lead me somewhere that sounded like it was underground. When he took off the blindfold, Captain Levi was holding my chains, leaning on a wall next to Commander Erwin. The man who had brought me here walked out and I looked away, too scared and ashamed to look at them.

"C-Commander Erwin...Captain Levi..." I gave them a small bow, refusing to look at them.

"Yuki it's been awhile. You're all grown up now huh ?" Commander Erwin asked, bringing my head up to look at him. "You were so small when we found you now look at you." He smiled. "What are you now ? 15 ?"

"I...y-yes Erwin-Sama-...I mean Commander." I nodded shyly and gave him a small smile as I wiped my tears.

"It's been a few years huh shrimp ?" Captain Levi said as he rubbed the top of my head. "Loosen up it's just us. Sorry about the shackles but it's a necessary precaution considering what happened."

I silently brought my chained hands up to grab his wrist and I brought his hand to my forehead. 

"It's...nice to see you too Captain." I smiled at him.

I heard a gasp and turned around to see Eren, chained just like me, on a bed and in a cell. He had the same chains and shackles as me except the neck one. They started talking but I zoned out. I thought about Marco and how I was supposed to give him his handkerchief back. I thought about the people I had seen die right in front of my eyes. I gripped Captain Levi's sleeve, looking down at the ground. I wasn't there to protect him. If I had just been with him...Marco wouldn't have died.

I woke up a few days later, on the floor next to Eren's bed. I tried to rub my eyes but the chains were holding me too tightly. I looked up and realized that I was on my knees, my arms chained up on either side of me. I sighed, relieved when I saw that Marco's handkerchief was still tied to my arm. I gave Eren a shy wave as he looked at me and looked back down at the ground. 

"Excuse me ! I need to use the toilet..." Eren said to one of the guards.

"You just went." He answered coldly.

"Could you please at least give us some water ?" I asked, feeling that my throat burned.

"Hey !" The second guard interrupted. "Know your place, monsters."

Monsters...? I looked up at Eren and saw he was about to say something but I shook my head. It would only make things worst if he got angry right now. I rolled my shoulders as I could feel the strain starting to burn my muscles. There was really no way out of this. I couldn't even stand up.

"Yuki..." He started. "What happened to the others ?"

"I...I..." Visions of Marco's body flashed across my eyes. "T-They-" I was interrupted by the sound of a door opening.

A strange woman with brown hair and glasses slammed her hands on the bars of the cell which made Eren and I jump back.

"So you guys are Eren and Yuki huh ? Oh wait yeah you are I recognize your strange glowy golden eyes. Y'know from when we were raising you and your brother." She smiled. "You guys okay ? How are things ? I'm sorry you've had to wait so long but now you have a chance to finally get out. Except...you'll have to put these on." She pulled out 2 pairs of shackles.

We walked down a strange corridor as I tried to distance myself from the man that was with her. He was smelling Eren which I found weird and didn't want that to happen with me.

"I'm Hange Zoe, a section commander in the Scout Regiment." The woman spoke.

"O-Oh that's right I remember now." I said. "You would always ask my brother if he wanted to help with experiments and you'd try to get me out of cleaning duty."

"Hehe that's right." She grinned. "It's such a shame...he was so young and talented yet gone so soon. Oh yeah before I forget. This is Miche Zacharius, also a section commander." She pointed at the strange man. "He always sniffs people like that when he first meets them. He met Yuki as a child tho so luckily she doesn't have to go through that again."

We stopped when we arrived in front of large wooden doors. Eren and I looked at each other with fear in our eyes as guards pushed us in.

"It's selfish of us but all we can do is put blind faith in you two." Hange said before the doors closed in front of her.

Eren and I stood in a courthouse full of people and I could feel my hands shaking. They were all staring at us as if we were some kind of monsters and I clenched my jaw. Monsters my ass. The guards pushed us to the middle of the courthouse with their guns. They told us to kneel down on a small stage as they held us in place using a huge metal pole. I spotted Armin and Mikasa on the side and I turned my head, not wanting to face them. I then looked up to see Captain Levi and Commander Erwin, who gave me a small smile, staring at Eren and I.

"Shall we begin ?" A man with white hair and glasses asked. "You are Eren Yeager and Yuki Uchiha. Soldiers who have sworn to give their lives to the people. Is that correct ?"

"Yes sir." We replied in unison. 

"Given the extraordinary circumstances, this deliberation will be held as a court-martial, regular law will not apply. In other words, I have full decision-making authority in this matter. Which includes determining whether you two should live or die." He explained. "Any objections ?"

"No sir." We replied, in unison again.

"As expected, concealing your existences has proven impossible. Unless we publicly disclose your existence in one fashion or another we risk the outbreak or a new, non-Titan, threat. It falls to me to decide which regiment should take charge of you. The Military Police or the Scout Regiment. Now let's hear what the Military Police proposes." He said as I clenched my fists.
