The Guardian's Tale (AOT fanfiction)

-Thunder Spears-

As I looked down at him, I noticed the Armored Titan hardening his fingers and toes. Surely enough, he ran towards the Wall and begun to climb. I heard the Commander order us to maintain a safe distance from him and not to engage combat. Seriously though, anyone who would attack him would be a suicidal maniac...looks like I'll have to keep Eren in check.

"Hange, why doesn't he have us attack ?" Eren asked. "What's he thinking ?"

"The enemy prepared quite the welcome." She answered calmly. "He's watching their movements for now. Erwin doesn't want to act until he understands their strategy."

After a few moments of complete silence, the Beast Titan roared and the smaller two to three meter Titans on either side of him started charging towards the Wall. There was no way to get through since the Beast Titan blocked off the Inner Gate so...that meant they were going for the horses. When I looked to see where Reiner was, I noticed that he was almost all the way up the Wall and Bertholdt hadn't shown himself yet. God dammit this was like fighting a second Commander Erwin. 

"Levi Squad and Hange Squad, I need you to take down the Armored Titan !" Commander Erwin ordered. "Employ the Thunder Spears at your own discretion. Do whatever it takes to achieve your objective. This is our moment. Our chance to strike. The fate of humankind depends on this battle. Lay down your hearts and lives one final time for humanity !"

"YESSIR !" We yelled in unison as we headed down the Wall. 

Shit...so it came down to being face to face with Reiner huh ? I glided through the city along with the rest of the Squad. We had to kill him...for humanity. As planned, Eren turned into a Titan and as soon as Reiner spotted him, he ran deeper into Shiganshina district. This would force Reiner to choose between Eren possibly escaping over the southern Wall or taking out the horses. 

Minutes before that, Armin relayed to us Erwin's instructions to use Eren as bait. If Reiner ignored Eren, Eren could circle around behind the enemy Titans and attack the Beast Titan, forming a pincer with Levi and the rest of the Scouts. Even if Reiner didn't follow the plan, it would create enough confusion for them to break ranks. Since Bertholdt hadn't showed yet, Eren was to fight Reiner away from the walls to prevent the Colossal Titan from falling onto him like last time.

I shot my hooks into Eren's shoulder and placed myself next to his ear.

"Eren..." I hesitated for a second. "Remember...you beat Reiner before. And with the Thunder Spears we can...kill him." He slightly turned to look at me and I smiled. "I'll be fine...I gave my heart and soul to humanity...when push comes to shove...this is just a small sacrifice."  

Just as expected, Reiner slid down the Wall and I signaled Eren. I turned my eyes scarlet and looked back at the Armored Titan who had just gotten down the Wall. Reiner...this is your last stand. As the Armored Titan approached, I crystallized the back of Eren's hands to prevent him from using too much energy and jumped off to avoid being in the middle of the fight. 

As I watched the two fight for a bit, I realized something. Reiner was somewhat good at hand to hand combat but...his armor was too heavy. Every single one of his moves were exaggerated. When he swung a punch, his fist would keep going due to the weight of his armor and would drag his body along with it. He might have had the upper hand with his armor before but now that Eren had mastered hardening...he didn't stand a snowflake's chance in hell. Suddenly, Eren managed to strike Reiner in head, cracking his armor and knocking him to the ground.

Hange signaled for me to come join them and I made my way to their rooftop. She handed me 2 thunder spears, placing a trigger on them. Thunder spears where basically spear shaped explosives, except that those would actually work against Reiner's armor. An initial charge would launch the projectile by pressing a special trigger in the handle of the device. When the rope connected to the main engine was cut, the second charge would be activated, causing a tremendous explosion which would make the projectile penetrate even deeper into the target.

As I looked back at Eren and Reiner, it was clear that Eren had the upper-hand. However, Eren must have gotten too confident and had misjudged Reiner's counter attack. Reiner grabbed Eren by the ankle and swung him overhead into a building. 

"Yuki..." Jean looked at me, noticing the distress in my eyes as I looked at Reiner. "You don't have to do this...just let us handle it and w-"

"No." I interrupted. "I pledged to give my heart and soul to humanity...." I hesitated as I brushed over my ring. "And if that means killing a part of me...then so be it. We all made sacrifices to be here...some of us paid with our lives...some of us with our morals...and it's time I paid up too."

Seeing Eren in distress as Reiner stood on top of him, Mikasa told Hange Eren needed our help but she denied and said we needed to wait for Eren to give us an opening. She was right, if we went now, we'd be crushed like bugs. We moved from rooftop to rooftop to follow the fight and I clenched my teeth. Sacrifices....he was gonna pay up with his life...and me with my soul. 

Eren finally managed to throw Reiner off of him and Hange lead us and Levi's squad to attack the Armored Titan. Mikasa and Hange took out his eyes while the rest of the squad and I came up behind him. We fired out thunder spears into his nape and disengaged before we could get caught up into the explosion. As I stood on a nearby house with Jean, Connie and Sasha, I looked at his neck and gasped. 

"THE ARMOR ON HIS NECK IS IN SPLINTERS NOW !" I called out to Hange.

"DO IT AGAIN !" She yelled back. "YOU EACH STILL HAVE A THUNDER SPEAR USE THEM TO END THIS !"

As we all hesitated, Jean reminded us that we said we'd do it if it ever came down to this. As we all fired off our thunder spears into Reiner's Titan, I heard him scream something out and I froze.

"NO ! I DON'T WANNA DIE !" He cried out from inside his Titan. "YUKI ! PLEASE ! SAVE ME !"

Jean yelled out something and I shook my head. No...now wasn't the time to be emotional.

"Reiner...I'm sorry...please forgive me." I said before disengaging. 

However, I didn't disengage at the right time and the shock from the explosion sent me flying into a house. Blood spewed out of my mouth as I hit a wall and I slid down, panting. Shit...if only I hadn't gotten distracted. Luckily, Jean caught me and threw me onto a rooftop, my eyes were widened in shock and tears streamed down my cheeks.

"Yuki pull yourself together dammit !" Jean yelled.

"Reiner he...cried out for me to save him...Jean...what did I do ?" I asked with a strangled voice.
