Warning Sign

"So see ya Sunday?" Isaac asked as class ended.

"Um, can we work on it Saturday instead?" I asked as Kat came and stood next to me.

"You're an Asshole. I hope you know that," Kat said as she glared at him. I simply nodded in agreement. If I started talking about what he did wrong, we would've been there all day.

He laughed and replied, "Word gets around fast, doesn't it? And no good, Beth. I've got soccer practice."

He wasn't even phased! He doesn't care that the whole school knows he's a jerk and he doesn't even care! I guessed as long as he had his 'good looks' girls were going to fall head over heels for him, and as long as he maintained his status quo by being super sporty, guys would want to friends with him. Sometimes, people can be so superficial. Kat and I rolled our eyes simultaneously.

"Beth, what have you got going on Sunday?" Kat suddenly asked me as she raised a brow.

"Um, I've got to spend... quality time with my brother!" I made up.

"You spend everyday with him." Kat pointed out as she put her hand on her hip.

"Well, I don't think it's enough," I attempted at defending myself.

"Okay, well can you work on it after whatever quality time you're spending with your brother?" Isaac asked, annoyed.

"Um, yeah." I said and waved him off. He shrugged and then walked away.

"You're going to see him, aren't you?" Kat accused me.

"I don't know, Kat. Maybe, maybe not. I just want to find out if it's Chase." I said as we both grabbed our stuff and headed to Evelyn's car.

"Please don't. He's just like Isaac, only like, ten times worse!" She begged as we got in the car.

"Would you tell us already what happened between you two?" Evelyn asked.

She sighed and then said, "long story short, freshman year, he asked me out. I said yes and I liked him alot. He told me he loved me and I told him the same. Then we almost slept together-"

"What? You said you were still a -"

"Eve! I wasn't done yet!" Eve went silent and she continued.

"We almost did, when some girl barged through his door. Apparently they had already slept together while we were together, and she was mad at him for dumping her." I could tell she was trying to keep her expression emotionless.

"I left and we never talked after that. I moved here and the following year I met you and Shaun." She told me.

"And then you met me the next year!" Eve added.

"Yes, we were all there, Eve." We all laughed and then Eve said," But, Kat, that was three years ago."

"People don't change, Eve,"

"Well, that's not -"

"No, she's right, Eve. Don't worry, Kat. I won't go." I told her.

I kept staring at my phone while doing my homework. Finally I texted him, maybe it wasn't actually him.

-who is this?

I continued my homework but kept checking my phone for another text. After about the hundredth time I checked, there was a reply.

- Now that would ruin the mystery.

It had to be Chase.

-Is this Chase? How did you get my number?

-no.

- so not Chase or... what?

-no

Whoever this was, was definitely mental

- I think you have the wrong number

-See, I'm pretty sure I don't... Beth

-This isn't creepy at all

-I was thinking the same thing! What a coincidence!

- If you don't tell me who you are I'm going to block you

I probably should've blocked it a long time ago but I was just curious as to who it was.

-Fine, you got me

- It's Chase
Even though I pretty much knew it was him, I was still shocked when I saw that text.

-How did you get my number?

- Can't there be any mystery to this romance?

- There is no romance. Kat told me what you did. You really are pathetic

- Eh, I've been called worse. Besides that was a long time ago.

Great, now I had to deal with two idiots

- I've got to go but I'll you at the Cafe in a couple hours

- I'm not going

- We'll see about that

He clearly underestimated me. I wanted to go, but I knew what would happen if I did. Kat was right. So I blocked his number and continued my homework. It was probably better that way. I didn't need any distractions, right?
