"Beth, your fine. Calm down," Isaac assured me as he held my hand.
"Where's Kat?"
"She's outside calling Noah."
"What? No! She can't do that!" I exclaimed. Before he could respond Kat and a doctor walked into the room.
"Oh good, you're awake. Now, all I needed to tell you was that you have a mild concussion. It's nothing too bad. Alrhough, I would advise you to not go to school for a day or too. But if not, I guess that's okay, too. Remember, get plenty of rest." She informed me. I smiled and nodded and she left the room.
"Noah, is on his way. Are you feeling any better?" She asked worriedly.
"I'm feeling just dandy!" I responded sarcastically. As much as I didn't want to, I pulled my hand free from Isaac's.
"So, um, what happened?"
"Well, you threw up in my car and then went unconscious." Isaac said plainly. I immediately turned bright red. Oh my God! I'm such an idiot!
"Oh, um, sorry," I said nervously.
"Whatever. Just know, you owe me," he said while doing something on his phone. I was so beyond embarrassed!
"If it makes you feel any better, you only threw up a little bit?"
"Ah, ew, gross Kat. That doesn't help," I said as I cringed.
"Bethany!" Noah called as he rushed through the door.
"How are you feeling?" He asked.
"I'm fine, really," I sighed. The pain had decreased since I last remembered but it was enough that I couldn't ignore it.
"Kat, do you have my bag?" I asked.
"Yeah, don't worry it's safe,"
"Well, um looks like my work is done," Isaac said as he got up and started to leave.
"Hey," Noah called.
"Yeah."
"Thanks,"
"No problem," he smiled and then walked out.
"So, what happened?" Noah asked.
Kat and I looked at each other and then back at him.
"Um, it's uh... It's a long story," I finally said. He laughed while shaking his head.
"As long as you didn't do anything illegal, I think I'll be fine," he replied. You know except for underage drinking, nothing at all Noah.
"Nope," I said.
*****
I walked into bio to see a bunch of girls huddled together in the corner of the room.
I walked over to see Serena crying.
"What happened?"
"So you know, how, you met Isaac last friday?" She asked in between sobs.
"Yeah."
"Well, I got mad at him because he wasn't paying any attention to me so I left," she continued.
"Uh huh," I said anxiously.
"Well I texted him to tell him sorry and if we could go out another time."
"And?"
She pulled out her phone and showed it to me.
It's cool. All though I don't think there will be another time.
"And now he won't answer any more of my texts!" She said as she resumed her crying.
Oh God! I was going to kill him!
"He's such a jerk!" Joanna told her.
"Yeah, you don't need him." The girls around her tried to comfort her . Personally, I felt like she was just looking for attention and was completely overreacting. But I guess I understood that she was upset. Whatever, people grieve in different ways.
"Oh please, ladies. It certainly is not the time for this nonsense. Find a seat," Mr. Baxter said as he walked into the room. All the guys snickered as we hustled back to our seats.
*****
"All that really happened?" Evelyn asked.
"And... And then he broke up with her?" She asked in shock.
Kat and I nodded.
"Damn!" Shaun exclaimed.
"Yup," Kat and I said at the same time.
My phone vibrated from my pocket, so I checked the message.
Hey, had fun on Friday. Let's meet. Sunday, 11 am, La Madeline Cafe.
I stared at the screen confusedly when Kat snatched the phone from my hand.
"Ugh! You are not going!" Kat yelled.
"What? Who is it?" I asked as we all sat down for lunch.
" 'Had fun' Had fun? What the hell is wrong with him? You guys spent five minutes together and suddenly he's like 'had fun' as if you spent the whole night with him!" Kat ranted.
"Wait, are you talking about Chase?" I asked.
"Well duh! It has to be him!"
"Babe, just chill."
"Yeah, what's the big deal. I mean except for the part of how he got her phone number. That's definitely a little stalkerish," Evelyn said.
"I'll tell you later. But that's not the point, Beth. Don't go, okay? He's bad news," She said a little calmer.
"Yeah, of course!" I reassured her. I probably wasn't gonna go. At the party, he was kinda nice to me, but then again, I didn't talk to him for that long. Besides if Kat says he's bad, then he definitely is.
