Chapter 15

Travis POV

Her skin was green and almost scalded.

Her eyes were grey with piercing white sparks running through it.

Her hair was grey with tints of white seeping through it.

I took a step closer and touched her with my finger tips, she was cold. This was surreal, couldn’t possibly be possible. There was a creature standing before me and I was pretty sure this wasn’t a dream or a movie for that matter. I was in shock and my eyes couldn’t have grown wider.

She looked fierce and beautiful.

“I-I-I-I-I-I-I-” she stammered, scrambling to the back. “I wasn’t supposed to change, I’m on the pills,” she whispered, her fingers shaking. “You weren’t supposed to see me like this,” she yelled, her scream piercing through my ear like a thousand bells being rung at the same time.

“Urgh!” I shrieked. The noise was excruciating. She stopped and suddenly her eyes had more fire in it and in a single second she was at the other part of the room and with her bare fist, the dining table split in two as she pound against it. Whoa I’d never seen anything like this, what was happening to her.

“Melissa,” I shouted hoping she could hear me or maybe I was just hoping she was the same person I knew. She turned slowly, her eyes softening and her body going back to the way it was. I was amazed at how her grey hair seemed to lose its color immediately and be replenished back by the usual blond that flowed freely on her shoulders.

“Travis. Oh my God. I’m so sorry, I don’t know what happened, it was like I was being taken over by something,” she resigned as she slumped down to the ground, leaning against the wall near her.

“Melissa…what the hell are you.”

She looked up for the first time after about ten minutes of just sitting down. Her body had been shaking and it looked like she hadn’t experience such outburst from herself before. I saw the sad and tired lines around her eyes and I knew that she’s been though a lot; the scars explained some of it. From that moment all I wanted was to cradle her and tell her everything was going to be alright even if I wasn’t sure it was. I didn’t care what she was but I knew that she was so pure at heart and beautiful inside and out. I just wanted to be there for her.

I scooted over to her side and put her head on my shoulder. “No, no, Travis what are you doing,” she asked, confused.

“What do you mean; it’s just a hug, nothing naughty.”

“No, I mean why aren’t you running, are you not scared or something, didn’t you see what just happened,” she questioned, shaking her head vigorously as if to make me disappear.

“Yes Melissa, I did. I’m not exactly blind or retarded,” I replied dryly. “I don’t care what you are okay, I’m here for you…even if I think I’m crazy right now,” I muttered the last part.
