"She coming over here?" Marie looked up at Maurice, shaking her head no as she adjusted Nami in her arms. The small baby was all cranky for some reason, her third month approaching.
"I told her not to come when you decided to pop up. No, I didn't tell her you were here exactly but I told her some things came up with Nami that I needed to tend to." Maurice sat down on the swivel bar stool chair that sat on Marie and Don's kitchen island. It was only the three of them there, Marie, Maurice, and Nami. Don was out to the store to grab a couple things while Blade was home doing God knows what.
"Alright so call her." Marie rubbed her temple with her left hand, Maurice loved chaos and she had no questions about that. She was convinced he loved pure confusion and ghettoness because that's all he caused.
"Now why the hell do you want me to call that girl while you here? She been trying so hard to ignore you." Maurice shrugged, leaning back in his seat as his eyes diverted onto Nami. He made a goofy face at the little baby, earning a small smile and spit giggles.
"Because I said so and because you're helping me get her back sis." Marie gave him an annoyed look, he was always trying to put her in the middle of him and Robyn's issues then used the whole sis thing to get him what he wanted. Marie and Ace had gotten so close since their first encounter when she was pregnant. She kind of played the role that Desi once played, obviously minus the sex part.
They made sure to follow certain boundaries that were a given, never crossing the invisible border between them. But because Maurice considered Don as one of his brothers, that automatically made Marie a sister to him. He trusted her in a short amount of time, something he didn't do with a lot of people. But he also took advantage of her sometimes for his own selfish want and need, and Marie was aware of that. But she was a really caring person, so she didn't mind.
"What am I even supposed to say?" Marie spoke quietly once she noticed Nami was fast asleep. Maurice didn't say anything, giving Marie the opportunity to lay down the baby in the living room.
He watched them the whole way until they were out of view, his face going back hard. There were few things that brought him genuine happiness, baby's being one of them. He didn't want any of his own...ever, but he loved having a niece. In the beginning he was really distant and didn't really give Marie or the child a chance. But once he put his pride aside, he was able to allow himself to be vulnerable and show another side of himself when it came to Nami.
"Alright, I'm back." Marie mumbled, entering the kitchen again while dusting her hands on the sides of her pants. Maurice glanced up, placing down the piece of mail he found himself reading.
