"I am so sorry I'm late." Robyn balanced her coffee in one hand and her purse in the other as she rushed into the classroom. It was 15 minutes pass the time class was supposed to start, forcing a substitute to cover for the time being. The whole class looked up at her, immediately their faces brightened from the dull looks that were previously there.
"Finally, was finna spazz on this lady." One of the kids mumbled, referring to the older substitute. Robyn gave a tight lipped smile, lightly tapping the boy to get him to shut up. The teacher covering gave Robyn a dirty look, but she tried to ignore it.
"You may be excused now." She wasn't being rude, more like trying to get into her desk and do what she needed to do. The teacher looked up and rolled her eyes, grabbing her things and walking out without another word. Shaking her head, Robyn placed her things down before turning to the class.
"I'm sure you all made it a priority to give her a hard time. Kevin close that door." She pointed to the open door, sitting down in her seat. Everyone began talking at once until she raise her hand to quiet them.
"Where were you and why you all dressed up?" London, one of the more loud girls in the class asked. Robyn took a sip from her coffee and pulled her computer out, placing it on the desk in front of her.
"For one, we have visitors today so I had to come more presentable. That also means I need you guys to be on your best behavior, not none of the rowdy shit y'all be on most of the time. Then for two, I'm late because...traffic was a little crazy." There were barely any cars on the road, the real reason why she was late was because Maurice wasn't trying to let her leave. She tried to hold her ground, but temptation got the best of her as always.
"You don't got to lie to us bout why you late Ms. Fenty." She clasped her hands together and tilted her head. Whenever they referred to her as 'Ms. Fenty,' they were either about to get grown or out of pocket. But she's gotten used to it by now, they loved playing detective and she allowed them.
"Who said I was lying? And we're not talking about me right now, get with your partners from the other day and work on the project. I need to have something in my email by 11:59 pm tonight if you and your partner want credit. Don't turn in a blank document either because you won't be getting any credit at all. Don't half ass it because that'll be partial credit. I already sent the full credit guidelines so get to it. Clear?"
"Crystal." The class replied, earning a warm smile from Robyn. She talked to them and treated them like friends, but when it was time to get in teacher mode she never had a problem with that. Then with the students already being comfortable with her, they surprisingly never gave a hard time.
