Nathaniel's P.O.V.
What is it with her? I paced up and down behind the bar and thought of all the possibilities that would explain her reaction.
Did her parents abuse her?
Or was..."Excuse me!" Shocked I looked up to see a middle aged woman standing in line to get a coffee at my second job.
"I'm so sorry." I told her and went back to the cash desk. The woman standing at the counter looked annoyed and clenched her jaw.
"Young man, at work you should concentrate." I smiled at her. One of these people again. My inner self rolled it's eyes.
So I apologized again which seemed to satisfy the customer.
"What can I get you?"
Two hours later I was finished with my second job. Tomorrow I was able to go to school again. I'll ask Lumi then what had happened to her.
I just don't know what I did so awfully whrong that she was about to cry...
It broke my heart to think back to her face drowned in tears.
I don't even have her number...
Ugh, why am I thinking of you all the time Lumi?! So annoying.
I grabbed the car wheel tighter.
As I drove to the hospital my favorite song began to play in my spotify playlist. That eased my mood immediately.
I made my way to my sisters room. As I opened the door I saw someone sitting next to her. The person turned around and Lumi's eyes stared into mine.
"What are YOU doing here?"
"Why are you HERE?"We both asked in shock at the same time.
Then I saw the book in her hands. Was she one of the volunteers?
"She is my sister."
"I volunteer here."Okay, us talking at the same time was getting creepy and annoying.
"Your sister?" She whispered shocked.
I nodded and made my way to her bed. Mariella was sleeping.
She did that a lot these days...
Gone was the lively eight year old girl.
I sat down next to her and caressed her cheek. It probably wouldn't take long anymore...my throat tightened up thinking about it.
The thought of her vanishing from this earth before me was daunting.
She woke up and her tired eyes looked up at me. "Niel." She smiled and I smiled back.
"Hey little fighter. How are you today?"
"It hurts." She whispered.
"I know. It will go away soon. I promise."
She stretched her little arms out and I took her into mine by picking my little sister up. "Do you want to go out?" I asked the light bundle in my arms.
She had lost a lot of weight.
"Can we go visit Eli and Marco?" I nodded and searched for her wheelchair.
Then I noticed that Lumi was still here. Mariella did too."Thank you for the story." My little sister grinned at her and she smiled back.
"Always. Have a nice day." She waved and smiled but I could see how shocked she still was.
Mariella waved too and then turned back to me. "Can we go?" She asked.
