Raving

Scott texted me one night, telling me to meet him at the animal clinic to talk to Deaton about Jackson...with Derek. Of course I agreed, wanting to know how to save Jackson, if there was a way. I decided to run over in my wolf form, making sure to avoid busy areas, entering through the back to find Scott, Derek and Isaac waiting for me. I glared at Derek before walking over to Scott.

"You told me it was just Derek."

"That's what I thought," he replied.

"We've got some...trust issues," Derek explained.

"I knew that already," I told him, folding my arms irritably. I was still upset with Derek about the whole Isaac situation.

"Now, where's the vet? Is he gonna help us or not?"

That's when Deaton made his sudden appearance behind the counter. "That depends. Your friend, Jackson...Are we planning to kill him, or save him?"

Derek said, "Kill him," just as Scott said, "Save him." They both glared at each other.

"Save him," I clarified, looking at Deaton. He nodded and invited us to the back.

Isaac was about to touch something, but Derek stopped him. "Watch what you touch."

He retracted his arm. "So, what are you, some kind of witch?"

"No, I'm a veterinarian," Deaton replied drolly. He set a box of powders on the examination table in front of us. "Unfortunately, I don't see anything here that's going to be an effective defense against a paralytic toxin."

"We're open to suggestions," Derek said.

"What about an effective offense?" Isaac suggested.

"We already tried. I nearly took its head off, and Argent emptied an entire clip into it. The thing just gets back up."

They must have had an eventful night.

"Has it shown any weaknesses?" Deaton asked.

"Well, one- it can't swim," Deaton replied.

"Does that go for Jackson as well?"

"No. He's the captain of the swim team," I stated.

"Essentially, you're trying to catch two people-" Deaton showed us some sort of coin"-a puppet, and a puppeteer. One killed the husband, but the other had to take care of the wife. Do we know why?"

Apparently, the Kanima killed some guy in the woods and his wife was killed the next day after she had her baby. One was definately slashed, but the other seemed to have suffocated. Stiles was still trying to link the murders together.

"I don't think Jackson could do it," Scott said. "His mother died pregnant, too, and she was maybe murdered. I think he couldn't let the same thing happen to someone else."

"How do you know it's not part of the rules?" Isaac asked. "The Kanima kills murderers. If Jackson kills the wife, then the baby dies, too."

"Does that mean your father was a murderer?" I asked him.

"Wouldn't surprise me if he was," Isaac responded grimly.

"Hold on," Deaton said. "The book says they're bonded, right? What if the fear of water isn't come from Jackson, but the person controlling him?" He opened a small bottle and place the coin on the table. Then, he sprinkled a circle of black powder around it. "What if something that affects the Kanima also affects its master?"

"Meaning what?" Isaac questioned.

"Meaning we can catch them-both of them," Scott realized.

At school the next day, I leaned up against the wall outside the door to the boy's locker room, waiting for Stiles. I needed to talk to him about...Matt...and going to the rave with him. I already told Scott, so now I had to brace myself for Stiles' response. I also needed to tell him about Isaac...maybe... So, the moment he walked out of the locker room, I grabbed his hand and dragged him into a nearby empty classroom.
