"Stiles, for the last time, I'm fine!" I cried, completely paranoid. The moment I stepped foot in the school, I was attacked by my overprotective boyfriend, making sure I was okay.
"A lot happened yesterday and you not being there was not okay."
"Well, if you really must know... I had a high fever yesterday, so I needed some rest. And then, I was visited by these weird people... almost like ninjas..."
"Ninjas?"
"Yeah," I said as I spotted Scott approching. "Look, there's Scott. I'll explain everything else later."
"Fine," he whined.
"Scott," I greeted before noticing Aiden and Ethan staring at us. "Need to lose some bodyguards?"
"You don't mind, do you?"
"Not at all. You guys can catch me up later," I told him, patting Scott's shoulder as I confidently strolled up to the twins. "Hey."
"What do you want?" Aiden snarled.
"Nothing," I smirked. "Why are you guys so eager to join Scott's pack, anyway?"
"Becasue without a pack, we're outcasts," Ethan stated firmly, not wanting to talk about it further.
"You kin dof made yourselves outcasts when you decided to go against us," I mentioned casually.
Aiden tried to lunge at me, but Ethan held him back. "May I remind you that you were on our side for a time?"
"Well, more like a double agent. I was manipulated through my emotions, but you guys willingly joined Deucalion. There's a difference. Plus, I managed to overcome his deceit a lot faster than you guys did."
I heard low growling from both of them.
"Ah, ah, ah. Careful boys," I scolded tauntingly. "I'm something much more powerful than you two, remember? All those... tests... Deucalion made you do for me? I could take both of you out with my eyes closed."
I willed my eyes to shine its bright purple for a moment and they both stepped back. Then, I noticed Scott approaching and smiled sarcastically.
"Nice chat. We should definitely do this again sometime."
I turned around and walked up to Scott. "Hey, where's Stiles?"
"At his locker. He's not looking too good..."
"He looked fine this morning."
"He's probably faking it... for you."
I rushed past him and found Stiles leaning against the lockers, his eyes closed.
"Stiles?"
He jumped at the sound of my voice.
"You okay?"
He nodded. "Yeah..."
I hooked my arm with his and started to lead him out to the parking lot.
"What are you doing?"
"I'm going to take care of my boyfriend who is definitely not okay!"
I gently stuffed him in my car and drove him to the hospital, immediately searching for Melissa. She always knew what to do.
"Stiles? Stiles, are you okay?"
"I don't know... I guess... I guess not really," he replied anxiously.
"Can you help him?" I asked softly.
"Alright, kiddo, alright. Come with me. It's okay."
She got us into a room and I sat down next to Stiles, our hands intertwined. She had a clipboard in her hand as she began to ask Stiles some questions.
"Blackouts... but not for that long. And sleepwalking, which I used to do a lot as a kid... Um, I'm also having some really bad anxiety..."
"Panic attacks?"
"Yeah, a couple... Oh, and I temporarily lost the ability to read. But, that might have had more to do with this giant magic tree and the whole human sacrifice thing..."
"He's gone through a lot," I concluded.
Melissa smiled. "I remember something vaguely about that, yes." She wrote something down. "How many hours of sleep are you getting?"
"Eight."
"A night?"
"In the last three days..." Stiles thought for a moment. "Yeah, definitely eight."
"Been feeling irritable?"
"Yeah... possibly to the point of homicide..."
"Inability to focus?"
"No, the Adder-all's not working."
"Impulsive behavior?"
"More than my usual? Hard to tell." I snorted a laugh.
"Vivid dreams during the day?"
"Okay, basically al of the above. Do you know what this is?"
"I think so." She grabbed a needle full of a mystery liquid.
"Uh, what's that?"
"Do you trust me?"
"When you're not holding a needle..."
She gave him the shot. "It's Midazolam,- a sedative."
"Why'd you give me... a sedative?"
"Because you, Stiles, are one profoundly sleep-deprived young man. You need rest, and you need it now." I moved out of the way as Melissa helped him lie down. "Lie down."
"Okay, how long's it take to..." His eyes started to get droopy. "Oh... not long at all..."
"Get some rest," Melissa encouraged as she tucked him in.
"Thanks, mom..." he said drowsily as the sedative kicked in.
Melissa turned to me. "You should go home, Melody. You're not looking too well, either. Sleep deprived?"
"No, no. I can't leave him," I insisted. "Please, let me stay. I'll do everything you ask, I promise."
She sighed. "Okay. But I want you to get some rest too, or I'll sedate you as well." She grabbed a blanket and gave it to me as I sat down in a chair next to Stiles, holding his hand.
"Thank you."
She turned the lights off and left. I slowly stood and gave Stiles a small peck on the check.
"Stiles... I promise we'll get through this. I will be with you every step of the way... even if..." I choked on my words. "Even if it... kills me."
I squeezed his hand as I laid my head on the bed and slowly fell asleep. I don't know how long I was asleep, but I was awoken by my phone buzzing frantically for a moment. Scott had been trying to call me... something about Oni? I didn't quite understand since I tried to listen to a voice message while half asleep. I sat up in the chair, rubbing my eyes and stretching when I realized Stiles wasn't in bed. I frantically got up and burst out the door, looking down the hallway as footsteps approached. I sighed in relief when I spotted both Stiles and Scott.
"Stiles! How are you feeling?" I asked as we embraced.
"Better," he replied, hugging me tighter.
"Melody... we've got a situation," Scott told me.
"What's going on?"
