When I became mutual friends with Derek Hale, promising to stick together and forget our differences, I didn't realize I just signed a paperless contract to help him find the Alpha with Scott. I guess that's why people encourage you to read the entire contract before signing it. You ensure no surprises. And before I started to help, Scott and I had a long talk about...the kiss and confirmed he was just under the influence of the moon, no feelings involved. That put both me and Stiles at ease. Right now, I was in Derek's black Chevy Camaro, Stiles in the passenger seat and Scott in the back as we were being chased by Hunters, a distraction for Derek to get close to the Alpha.
"Faster?" I asked hesitantly.
"Much faster," Stiles and Scott agreed frantically.
I pressed on the gas pedal and we zoomed forward, but the Hunters were still on our tail.
"Melody, I don't think you're grasping the concept of a car chase, here..." Stiles stated.
"Well, you guys voluntold me to drive since I was the safe and more experienced driver. I'm doing my best. I have never been involved in a car chase before. First time for everything, right?"
"Yeah, like getting caught and possibly killed by Hunters! You're driving like a grandma."
That struck a chord. "I'll show you how a grandma drives," I stated flatly, gripping the wheel and flooring the gas pedal. I heard both boys jerk back in their seats and I smirked. I looked up in the rear-view mirror to see the Hunters' vehicles pull back.
"They're gone," I reported.
Stiles got out a radio he might have stolen that has the frequency the police were using.
"All units, suspect is on foot heading into the Iron Works."
"Buckle up, boys," I told them as I drove back to the Iron Works, using my new abilities to sense Derek's emotions to pinpoint his location. I quickly braked when we arrived. Stiles opened his door before crawling into the back with Scott.
"Get in!" I cried to him and he didn't hesitate.
Once we were in the clear, Scott leaned forward. "What part of 'laying low' don't you understand?"
"Dang it, I had him!" Derek exclaimed, hitting the dashboard with his fists.
"Who? The Alpha?" Stiles asked.
"Yes! He was right in front of me, and the freakin' police showed up."
"Whoa! Hey, they're just doing their jobs," Stiles defended.
"Yeah, thanks to someone who decided to make me the most wanted fugitive in the entire state," Derek replied sarcastically.
"Can we seriously get past that? I made a stupid mistake. I get it," Scott stated.
Stiles sighed. "All right. How did you find him?"
Derek didn't reply.
"Can you trust us for at least half a second?" Scott scoffed.
"Yeah, both of us!" Derek glared at Stiles. "Or, just him. I'll...be back here." He slumped in the seat.
"Look, the last time I talked to my sister, she was close to figuring something out. She found two things. The first was a guy named Harris."
Stiles bolted forward. "Our chemistry teacher?"
"Why him?" Scott asked, not pleased with the fact it wass Mr. Harris we were talking about. I wouldn't blame him.
