I went shopping with Scott in the evening, since I needed a few things...and I was trying to figure out why Stiles wasn't talking to him. Turns out, at parent-teacher conferences, there was a cougar in the parking lot and Stiles' dad got hit by a car among the chaos. He's fine, just slightly bruised, but Stiles was blaming Scott for not being there to help his dad.

"Maybe I can talk some sense into him," I told Scott, who seemed a bit upset that his best friend was upset. "After all, his dad is doing just fine."

"Thanks, Melody. That would be awesome," Scott replied as we walked back to our cars in the parking garage.

That's when we realized that we had forgotten where we parked our cars. We searched all the way to level four before Scott set down his groceries and clicked his keys, pointing in all directions. We heard his mom's car...in the floor above us. I sighed.

"Next time, let's remember where we parked on," I said tiredly. "Not that I don't enjoy a nice cardio workout out every now and then."

Scott laughed. "Yeah, no kidding. But you seem like you could run a marathon without breaking sweat. Do you actually work out?"

I blushed sheepishly. "Yes...I do."

"Sweet."

He gathered his groceries and watched a bottle of milk roll under a car nearby. He was about to go after it when it came rolling back with claw marks on it.

"Oh, crap!" He cried as I heard growling. We dropped our bags and ran for our lives, running to the next level down before deciding to hide between cars. Of course, our hearts were pounding like crazy, so whoever was after us could track us. Then, Scott got the brilliant idea to jump on the hoods of the cars so their alarms went off, covering the sound. I followed his example on the other side of the aisle before hiding again. We were safe...until Scott's phone went off. I tried to motion for him to turn it off, but it was too late. I watched Derek pull him by the collar off the ground and slam him on top of the car next to him.

"You're dead," Derek stated grimly.

"Seriously?!" I exclaimed as I came out of hiding.

He just glared at me before starting to walk away. We followed him angrily.

"What? What was that?" Scott questioned.

Derek shrugged. "I said I was gonna teach you- I didn't  say when."

I scoffed. "You call that teaching?"

"You scared the crap out of us!" Scott added.

"Not yet," he replied wryly.

"Okay, but we were fast, right?" Scott defended.

"Not fast enough," Derek told us, unimpressed.

"But-but the car alarm thing! That was smart, right?"

"'Til your phone rang..."

"Yeah, but that was- I mean-"

Derek kept walking, making us both frustrated. Pretty soon I had enough and stopped. "Derek, stop!" I shouted. Surprisingly, he did, turning to face us.

Scott sighed. "What happened the other night- Stiles' dad getting hurt- that was my fault. I should have been there to do something. I need you to teach me how to control this."

Derek sighed. "Look,  I am what I am because of birth. You were bitten. Teaching  someone who was bitten takes time. I don't even know if I can teach you."

"What do I have to do?"

"You have to get rid of distractions." He snatched Scott's phone from his pocket. "You see this? This is why I caught you." I saw a missed call from Allison on his screen. "You want me to teach you? Get rid of her."
