Teenagers just want to be normal...well...teenagers. But not everyone can, can they? I mean, look at my life, for example. I was a part of a humble family, the Monroes. I was the youngest of three children and we were one happy family who did almost everything together. We loved and supported each other in anything. But with any family, there were secrets. We had a big one, only between me and my parents: I wasn't exactly...human. I was part wolf, something that only lives in myths we tell kids at night. I was a werewolf, but a very unique and different kind. I didn't understand all my abilities, but I had the typical inhuman strength, speed, agility, reflexes and senses. My healing time was accelerated, I could absorb pain from others and I had animal instincts. What made me different from a regular werewolves was I was able to turn into an actual wolf rather than a partially lupine humanoid. From full moon to new moon, I became a white wolf and from new moon to full moon, I became a black wolf. Also, my eyes glowed a bright purple. I didn't know what I was, nor did my parents. The hardest part about this was that I had to keep it from my older siblings. I learned how to control my abilities on my own, especially on a full moon night. I developed a strong anchor to help me: my family.

Of course, bad things have a habit of bothering good people. I was returning home from my last day as a Freshman in high school on foot, taking a shortcut through the woods nearby. I've always gone this way, since I spent a lot of time there as a wolf. I knew everything in there, every rock, tree and creature. But today, there was something different about it. I had this sensation, drawing me away from my intended direction to find something else. I followed my feeling to a small clearing, not a single bird singing in the trees. Then, I laid my eyes on a huge wolf-like beast, standing a few yards away from me, sniffing the air. Terrified, I slowly stepped back and a twig snapped, alerting the beast. The monster turned its head to spot me, his eyes glowing red, the signature eye color of an alpha. It let out a low throaty growl, slowly making its way towards me. I bravely held my stance, staring intently at the creature until I felt my eyes begin to glow purple in place of my bright blue ones, power coursing through my body. I let out a powerful roar, and the werewolf yielded reluctantly, disappearing into the woods.

After that encounter, I ran straight home, not daring to look back. I had scarcely done so when a powerful scent of blood hit me like a tsunami. I found the front door of my house ripped off its hinges, giant claw marks decorating the walls. I stepped into the living room and gasped, covering my mouth. My family was scattered across the room, their throats slashed and bodies clawed mercilessly. I knew immediately the Alpha had done this. It was probably looking for me, but for reasons I did not know. Tears welled up as I collapsed to the floor beside my parents. Suddenly, my father's eyes flew open and he gasped for air as he grabbed my arm with his bloody hand.

"Melody...you need to go. Get out of here as fast as you can and as far away as possible," my father wheezed.

"I can't-I can't just leave you here," I whispered between sobs. "I can save you-"

"It's too late. Please...the police are coming. Go."

As my father took his last breath, I squeezed his arm, taking away as much pain as I could handle, my veins blackening and I hissed in pain. I watched as he slowly closed his eyes, his arm going limp. I stayed by his side until I heard the sirens closing in on my house. Before they arrived, I was already upstairs in my bedroom, hastily packing everything I needed for a long journey in a black duffel bag. Then, I pulled out a letter my parents' wrote to me in case anything like this ever happened from my favorite book: Lord of the Rings : The Fellowship of the Ring. Inside was a concise set of instructions for me to follow, along with a wad of cash. Once I was ready to go and the police were on my doorstep, I quietly jumped out of my window and ran into the woods without any detection. My next stop was Beacon Hills, California, where my new life would begin. I don't know why I was going there, but the name seemed familiar, so hopefully somebody knew me.

My parents had bought another house for an emergency, located at the edge of town, near the Beacon Hills Preserve. It had everything ready for my arrival: food, water, clothes, a car, everything. I even had a job position reserved for me with the local animal clinic. Apparently, my parents were good friends with the manager and he already knew who I was. And the best part of this whole ideal is I didn't need to worry about any bills, because my mom's sister, who married some billionaire, will be generously covering the costs and feeding money into my bank account here. Sounds like a good life...for someone who didn't just lose their entire family. I knew I would have to adjust to being...alone...and finding a new anchor so I could be a normal teenager when school started here. What could happen?
