I quickly pursued Boyd's scent through a forest in my white wolf form, Scott soon joining me. I was hot on his trail when I skidded to a stop, picking up two more scents. That's when I heard two distinct screams of kids. I looked up at Scott, who nodded, and we raced to them. They managed to escape from Boyd, who ran off as we approached. There was an older girl standing next to her younger brother, shaking slightly.
"Hey, hey, it's okay," Scott told them quietly and I barked happily. They immediately ran to Scott, gripping his arm as he called called Derek. I sat next to the young boy, licking his face and allowing him to scratch my head.
"You lost them?" I heard Derek exclaimed.
"Yeah, I kind of had to..."
"Wasn't exactly the plan," Derek said.
"I know, which is why I think that we should stick together. Trust me- he's too strong, too fast, and way to angry for one person to handle. We've got to do this together."
"Look, I'm at the trails by the entrance to the preserve. Can you meet me there?"
"Yeah...Just got to drop something off first," Scott replied, looking down at the kids.
We took the kids home, letting the boy ride on my back since I was big enough and strong enought to do so. He laughed the entire time, making me smile. When we arrived at their house, both the gril and the boy gave me huge hugs, and I returned it with loving licks before nudging them towards the house.
"Thank you for rescuing us," the girl told Scott.
"Yeah. And thanks fro letting us play with your fluffy dog!" The boy added as I licked his face again. He giggled.
Scott smiled. "You're welcome. Now, get inside. Your mom must be worried."
They gave us one last hug before going home. Scott looked down at me with a mischievous grin. "Come here, girl. Come here," he coaxed, patting his leg. I growled slightly before I had a major flashback.... This was what Stiles did when we found Lydia in the woods. I immediately pushed the thought aside before reluctantly following Scott. Once it was safe to do so, I turned back into human form, arms crossed and staring at Scott angrily.
"What?" he asked innocently.
"Don't ever coax me agian," I told him bitterly.
"The kids really liked you."
"I was just playing my part," I replied.
"Don't tell me you didn't enjoy it just a little bit?"
"They were an exception, not you."
We continued to walk in silence, heading to my house. I decided to go home after this attempt to catch Boyd and Cora, needing time to think over my...situation.
"So...are you ever going to talk to Stiles?" Scott quietly asked, knowing it was a sensitive subject.
"I don't know," I replied firmly, not wanting to talk about it. "I don't trust him anymore."
"Maybe you guys could figure something out if you just-"
"Not right now," I interrupted. "I just need...time...to think. You know what that feels like, so maybe you should tell Stiles how to deal with it."
"Melody, what happened to you?" Scott exclaimed. "You've changed...but not in a good way."
"I'm fine, Scott. I need to figure things out on my own." I sighed. "Now, you should go help Derek."
We made it to my house and I walked in without saying goodbye, locking the door behind me. I collapsed onto my couch, a million thoughts running through my mind. Suddenly, I had the sudden urge to go for a drive. I was exhausted, but alert enough for a short drive. I hopped into my white car and started to drive around town, not knowing where I was heading. I made several turns before arriving at a swimming pool outside a motel. I don't know why I was here, but I parked right next to a familiar car: Lydia's.
