"Agent Coulson!" She called to the familiar face as she wandered through the corridors of the ship. His head jerked up, and he smiled when he spotted her.
"Hello," He knelt down to her level, making her feel small and childlike, yet respected somehow, "Is there somewhere you should be?" He asked, glancing around and noticing she was without an escort. She scoffed and made an effort to roll her eyes.
"I left them arguing in the lab," she let out a sigh and looked bothered. Coulson responded how she suspected.
"What's troubling ya, kid?" He gently poked her side. It irritated her, but she decided to give him the ghost of a smile before responding seriously.
"What's going on around here, Agent Coulson?" She started, making an effort to sound somewhat like a frustrated child "There seems to be this unknown danger that they think I won't be able to handle," at the end of her purposefully-melodramatic mini-rant Coulson sighed.
"They think that keeping you safe means keeping you in the dark." he put a hand on her shoulder, an attempt to calm her, "They don't know how much you can handle," he finishes, looking her straight in they eyes. She could tell he didn't by her childish act much.
"And you do?" She challenges, he only smirks back before standing, "Does that mean you'll tell me what's happening?" She asks, unamused.
Coulson shakes his head, but leads her to a computer anyways. He pulls up multiple files on screen, and opens the first.
"This is the Tesseract," An image of a glowing blue cube appears, "It's a powerful energy source-"
"Used in WWII by H.Y.D.R.A., right?" She asked after she recognized the picture from her history training. He nods, eyeing her strangely, but continuing.
"It was stolen by Loki, a demigod from a place called Asgard. He's going to use it to bring an army to earth and take over," he switches the screen to a photo of Loki, decked out in clothes similarly-styled to the blonde man's attire, only more leather and less armor.
"This is Loki? The Norse deity?" She asked, earning an impressed nod from Coulson, "And he's leading an Alien invasion?" Once again, a nod, though this one much more amused as she frowned at the new information.
But she still had one question.
"Who are all the people? I mean, you've got Tony Stark, Captain America, Black Widow all obviously here to get back the Tesseract. Who are the others?" She inquired, and he flipped to the last file. Videos and images popped up in quick succession. He filtered through while he explained each of the so-called 'Avengers', skimming over those she had heard of, and going in-depth on the ones she hadn't.
Coulson watched as she observed each picture, appearing pensive. She was memorizing their names and backstories, identifying weaknesses and triggers that might allow for them to be manipulated.
If they were supposedly going to save the world, she had to be sure she could trust them first.
After a few moments, she turned to Coulson.
"What am I supposed to do?" She stated boldly. He instantly shook his head.
"Nothing. The second you're in danger-"
The ground tips under their feet, coulson kneels down for traction, and she crouches in a defensive position.
"What was that about danger, Agent?" She almost joked as the bridge was sent into a frenzy. He shakes his head as they stand slowly. He listens to something in his earpiece, before responding.
"This is Agent Coulson, I have bambi secure on the deck- yes I mean her, do you not understand codenames Stark? Lieutenant? What kind of a-"
"IS THIS REALLY AN IMPORTANT ARGUMENT TO BE HAVING OVER THE COMMS??" A dark-haired agent shouts from across the room. Coulson sighs.
