The first teacher spent the class going over Carter's individual learning plan, which shocked her. She knew the teachers had been briefed on their new student and that they were all given a specific five-oh-four plan to follow, but her English teacher had gone above and beyond.

She'd given Carter their reading list for the year and then asked her which ones she'd read and which she hadn't. Carter then picked two more books out of a different list to fill in the gaps, so she'd be studying two books with the class, and two books independently.

She had high hopes for their second class, which turned out to be college-level, Chemistry one-oh-two.

She'd let Peter lead her there, but due to the crowds she couldn't strike up a conversation since before the first period, and they hadn't been sat near each other during it so they were still in that somewhat-awkward silence.

They found their way into the classroom a few minutes early, and Carter went to introduce herself, hoping to get off on the right foot.

"Excuse me?" She called out to the woman sitting at the teacher's desk, "Are you, Ms. Sinclair?" She asked when she didn't get a response.

"Yes, and if you're my new student, you can find an empty seat and try not to interrupt my lesson," The woman grumbled, looking up at Carter through her fringed bangs.

Before she could snap back at her Peter pulled her along and sat the two of them in the third row beside a stout  caramel-skinned boy.

Peter shushed the boy, turning to Carter, "She's not nice to anyone, so don't take it personally," He explained, shrugging off his friend again.

"Whatever," She sighed, letting her deep breaths calm her down and pulling the papers that were positioned on the desk towards her, "Whoever that is, you might as well introduce us before he blows a fuse," She joked, glancing behind him.

The two frantically glanced between her and each other, both urging the other to speak.

It was the other one that spoke first, reaching across Peter to offer to shake her hand.

"I'm Ned, Peter's best friend and I think you're super cool and your powers are awesome and I wanna be just like you and you're so much prettier in pers-" His rush-of-a sentence was cut off by Peter's elbow making contact with his gut.

Carter smiled at his outburst, but regarded his hand with apprehension.

"It's nice to meet you, Ned," She said, and he seemed so happy that she risked the handshake.

And instantly regretted it.

His excitement and slight panic zapped into her, and she jolted away from the contact before he could register was was happening.

She worked to keep her smile steady, clenching and unclenching her hand to get rid of the feeling.

She ignored Peter's glances and set to work on the packet labeled 'Daily Notes' at the top.

She noted that nobody seemed to be paying them any attention, even as Peter signaled that the 'late' bell had rung and that class was starting.

In the first few minutes she'd completed the first page, easily scribbling down equations that Bruce and her could have solved in their sleep.

Blinking away the thought of yet another missing friend, she moved on to the following page, paying the rest of the class no mind.

Peter was too in awe to stop her from doing the class' group notes.

She was speeding through them as if it was as easy as addition and subtraction, and not the college-level learning material most people studied for hours to simply comprehend.
