Throughout AP Chemistry, and Physics, Carter watched Peter closely. The classwork was easy, but as the day went on she noticed he got more and more restless. He was constantly inattentive, but still managed to impress the room when he was called on.
She spotted him pouring some liquid into his desk drawer at one point, but he closed it before she could get a solid look at what he was doing.
They didn't sit together in any other class, so she wasnt able to ask him about his weird behavior.
And then there was the club.
"Listen, I know it doesn't really sound like your thing, but Liz really wants me to bring you to academic decathlon practice so if-"
"Fine, I'll stop by," Carter interrupted Peter's third attempt at getting her to attend the silly club meeting. Apparently it was during their 'Study hour'.
She agreed to meet him in the auditorium after she'd finished the placement test that their Physics teacher had asked her to come back to take so he could build a more advanced curriculum for her.
The test took her a mere ten minutes, and then she was on her way to what was sure to be way too much social interaction for her.
But hey, that's why she was here...
A sign-in log on the door listed that the Decatholon practice was in session, so she waltzed right in.
"-oom as Tony Stark,"
Carter froze at the door.
No one seemed to notice her presence, but she'd spotted a somewhat short dude closest to the door she entered through, and instinctively read the words on his lips.
Multiple people she'd never seen before responded, and she had a hard time tracking the conversation from her positioning.
"-what's happening?"
"-ot going to Washington,"
Amongst the many vocal and verbal complaints, she finally recognized Liz out of the group.
"Really?" She asked from her podium, "Right before Nationals?"
She saw the girl from the lunch room speak, but she didn't catch what she'd said either.
Snapping out of her shock at the short dude's comment, Carter began walking in, hoping someone would notice her.
Her eyes found the short one again as she followed everyone else's eyes.
Multiple people spotted her as he spoke, but he wasnt paying that much attention.
"-I got a hot date with Black Widow coming up," He spoke sarcastically, and as he finished his sentence his eyes landed on Carter. Who had just stopped in her tracks mere feet from where he sat.
His eyes widened and he mouthed a quick 'woah' before scrambling up out of his seat.
"I could cancel that though, if you'd be interested in taking her place," He drawled, stepping close to her and reaching out to place a hand on her shoulder.
This time, Carter could've stopped herself.
But she chose not to.
She took a small step closer to him, watching his eyes light up slightly, before her right leg hooked behind his left ankle. A quick and sharp push to the chest had him falling backward, and she just barely caught his shirt before his head could crack on the ground.
Then she dropped him on his ass instead.
Peter made it there first, bouncing up to her and glancing at the other dude.
