Wanda?
Carter's voice rang through Wanda's head, the thread linking them together finally responding to her constant tugging.
She sat up straighter in her seat, gaining Pietro's attention.
"What is it? Is it her?" He asked in a hushed whisper, leaning towards her and eyeing Ultron- who sat in the driver's seat of their commandeered military vehicle, taking them to his next destination.
Wanda nodded but held up a finger to shush him.
Carter, are you okay? Are you hurt? Where have they taken you? The woman sent back, questions that had been building since she felt the overwhelming pulse of energy.
She was impressed, proud, and all of the above. She'd felt the shock of what Carter did in Wakanda.
Then their bond had gone silent.
Then, she had been terrified.I'm fine, I'm safe...
Wanda sighed in relief, "She's okay," she whispered to Pietro, whose shoulders relaxed slightly.
Where are you, Pietro can-
No. Carter cut off Wanda's thought, sounding more stern and angry than an eleven-year-old should have been able to.
Carter, I know you're upset with us, we made a mistake. But the Avengers-
A mistake? Carter cut her off again, A mistake doesn't threaten the lives of hundreds- if not thousands of innocent people.
Wanda hissed, her eyes glowing slightly as Carter's anger hit her like a wave.
Pietro looked at her in alarm, the question in his eyes.
How did you do that? She asked.
There was a pause.
Do what? Her anger was gone, but Wanda thought she sounded worried...almost, afraid.
I felt you...your power- your anger...She explained, brow furrowing.
...it was unintentional... Carter sent back weakly.
The sound- the feeling of her retreating from Wanda, shrinking back into her shell and away from her powers sent a genuine wave of anger through her.
This is why I want to find you, you've barely begun to understand your powers, you need to start learning how to control them over a longer period, She responded firmly.
Wanda waited for a response.
A moment...a minute...then five, before...
I don't need you to tell me that, I am well aware. I wanted you to know I was safe, but that is all. Get back to me when you're no longer helping a genocidal robot, then we'll talk.
"No..." Wanda whispered, tears brimming as Carter's emotions hit her. Whether it was intentional or not, the fluke with her powers hurt her.
"What's wrong? Is she okay?" Pietro urged, still speaking in a hushed tone.
Wanda went to speak, but she felt the bond tug once more...
...before disappearing.
"Wanda?" Pietro asked again, but she wasn't listening.
She was searching, scouring her mind for that bond.
"...no..." She whispered again, genuine tears now streaming down her cheeks.
"What's. Wrong." Pietro gripped her shoulders, and they locked eyes. He searched her glowing red orbs for sadness, but instead, he found them blazing with rage.
