Storytime!!!

On the last Sunday  in 2020, members of our LBTQIA + family came to my church for service. My church family is generally accepting of everyone who enters our church but I'm not gonna lie, I was worried. I was worried because their appearance made them an easy target in case anything went wrong. They all wore pride flag pins and one of them had on a pride jacket which by the way was so flipping cool. One of them wore the most stunning and tallest pair of platforms and it was a miracle they could walk in them!

They all came in, sat down and service went on as usual. They received the usual visitors stares as everyone wondered if they needed something or if they were confused. Afterwards, we all went to greet them and I was so proud!!! They were not treated differently and everyone was extremely sweet and kind.

I share this short story to say that no matter any aspect of your identity, your age, sexual orientation, etc. you should be treated with respect and kindness. You should never feel as if you don't belong simply because of your identity. We all have a role to play in making the world a better place and simply just being welcoming and loving, is sometimes all we need to do.

Treat people with kindness.

Make love your first choice.

Let's spread joy, love and peace in the new year!
