in the morning dew
joyous peace and falling leaves
water cascades as
life comes anew in wet hues
thunderstorms fade to silence

According to poets.org, a "tanka is a thirty-one-syllable poem, traditionally written in a single unbroken line. A form of waka, Japanese song or verse, tanka translates as "short song," and is better known in its five-line, 5/7/5/7/7 syllable count form." While my poem follows the syllable count, I did not write this in a single line so it's my version of a Japanese tanka .
I post poems on my Instagram at gentlestepsnyc so go follow! I post twice a week there on Mondays and Fridays so I promise it will be worth it. 😘
~ Have you ever written a Japanese tanka?
Let me know how it went and if you strayed and made your own version like I did.
Much love,
D.O.
