Hi!!! Apparently April is National Poetry Month!!! I promise to try to update as often as I can because I know we could all use a positive distraction. I am in online school so hopefully that is frequently. This is a complicated stressful time so please take care of each other and yourself. This poem is inspired by Cheryl Strayed and her memoir Wild.
I was the cup of marble, solid and pure.
I was the tea.
I was the kettle, whistling
distracting you from your thoughts.
I was the toaster
JUMPING,
startling you, making your skin jump, tickle, warm.
I was the bed, holding, supportive.
I was a sheet, covering you up, hiding you.
I was your phone, greeting you in the morning
first to see your precious face.
I was the mirror, watching your reflection,
watching your grace, gentle steps.
I was the towel, wet and cool
soft when you caressed your face.
I was many and yet few.
Who were you?

I know Easter past for some and for some it's still upcoming but with that being said I wish you a Happy Easter and I hope your Easter was/is filled with joy regardless.
I hope you are doing what you need at this time. If you need to be working to feel as if everything is normal, please do. If you need to be sleeping all day every day because you can't get out of bed, please do. If you need to be making bread for fun, please do. Don't let social media dictate what you should be doing with your time. If you need to grieve, please do. We need to learn to take care of ourselves. Stop worrying about what you should be doing and instead focus on what you need. Take this time as blessing to reflect, to be, to do whatever it is that you need.
I send you all my love and joy and I pray you all are safe!
~ Have you ever made bread??
How was it? Did it come out good?
with so much love,
D.O.
