A/N: How's this for a tone shift? Basically if Reader was from another country and moved to Japan, where she met the cast only really fluent in one (non-Japanese) language.
I know foreigners to Japan were pretty much... unusual in that point of time, and foreigners deciding to stay were even rarer... but let's pretend for a minute, shall we?
--
Tanjiro:
The first time you met, you had trouble reading a sign and he offered his help.
He hardly spoke any of your language, but when you looked frustrated enough to cry, he kindly took your hand and walked you to where you wanted to go. You thanked him the best you could and went on your way.
Nezuko:
The first time you met, you were unfortunately caught up in a demon attack.
You were unluckily enough attacked in the inn you were housed at, and you were one of the ones that Nezuko scooped up to bring to safety. You tried to flag her down and thank her afterward, and though neither of you could linguistically communicate, she understood your gesturing very well.
Zenitsu:
The first time you met, it was when he was falling at your feet, begging you to marry him.
You had no idea what he was saying, and so you rightfully freaked out - and once he was curled up to protect his head from being further kicked, Tanjiro ran forward and attempted to apologize for his behavior. You tried to say you just wanted to find the city, but neither could understand you. Finally you gave up and left.
Inosuke:
The first time you met, he had no idea what in the world you were saying.
Let's not act like this boy has any experience with foreigners; he's likely never even heard English before. So when he saw you standing at a roadside squinting at a map in confusion, needless to say he was frustrated when you couldn't understand each other.
Finally you resorted to drawing pictures in the dirt with a stick and he pointed you in the general direction of where to go.
Giyuu:
The first time you met, you were tugging at his sleeve and asking how to get to the nearest train station.
Giyuu has some limited experience with your language, rudimentary as it is, so he's luckily able to guide you with only a few broken phrases. Your answering smile of relief sends butterflies into his stomach.
Kyojuro:
When you met him, you'd slumped down dazedly onto a bench before turning to ask him something in a foreign language.
He had no idea what you were trying to say, but you were able to make do with some limited sign language. He ends up walking you to the nearest inn so you can get some rest for the night, explaining to the shocked innkeeper what was going on (and attempting to explain it to you too).
Muichiro:
He's not one to help random passerby when they seem like they need help, but when you call out to catch his attention he can't just ignore you - you would only get louder and more annoying. So he turns with a sigh, only for you to ask in broken Japanese where the nearest inn is. He's able to direct you with some simple phrases and hand gestures, and he sends you off with a disinterested stare.
Shinobu:
One of the kakushi brought you in with a head wound and a glazed expression on your face, explaining that you were caught in a scuffle with a few demons and you couldn't speak much Japanese. She tries her best to help you, luckily able to communicate in a little bit of your spoken language. She ends up keeping you at the estate for observation - as well as Japanese lessons - just because she's uneasy about sending you out when you look like such a lost puppy.
Gyomei:
When you bump into him one day and hastily apologize in broken Japanese, he's clued in immediately that you're a lost traveler. While he can't see you, he can hear you - and he's luckily able to point you in the right direction of where to go. He ends up walking with you anyway, as you're concerned when you realize he's blind.
Sanemi:
He's curt and aloof when you ask him about where to buy some food for the night, but he softens a little when you explain you have nowhere to go and are just hunkered down in an inn for the night. He tells you where the nearest shop is and if he spends a little extra time tailing you to make sure you get there and back to the inn safe... who's to know but him?
Akaza:
Now that's someone he's never seen before. Akaza can immediately pick you out of a crowd just based on how out of your depth you look - and to his own surprise, he ends up watching you walk about until he has to seek shelter from daybreak.
Douma:
Oho, now who have we here?
When you find yourself at his compound, lost and scared, he may not be able to speak your language but he can certainly get by with gestures and a hot bath - surely one of his attendants can communicate with you, and he'll get them to tell him every single last thing about you. You're too pretty to let go.
Kokushibo:
The first time he ever sees you is when he's cutting down a row of slayers - you're curled up behind a tree, tears streaming down your face from fear. Everything about you screams 'foreigner', but he's largely disinterested as you don't look that strong. He spares you, not worried in the slightest about you telling anyone about what you saw.
Muzan:
He takes advantage of you being a foreigner and kidnaps you, fully intent on killing you or turning you, whichever one would be the most interesting for him.
Yoriichi:
Who in the world are you? He's never seen someone like you before, and he's equal parts cautious and intrigued as you ask him where to go in broken Japanese. Luckily he's kind enough to walk you to where he thinks you want to go, and you nearly fall over bowing in gratitude, making him catch you with a soft breath of amusement.
