CHAPTER THIRTY NINE

If there are things I missed from being a gangster, the adrenaline, the thirst to end all the bad guys and saving the humanity — okay, the last one is too much but yeah, I missed all of these. I missed acting a hero when in truth I was the villain dressed in superhero suit.

A bullet whizzed beside my cheek before penetrating the car behind me that served as my cover. Dumapa ako sa semento at gumapang papunta sa katawan ng lalaking nakahandusay malapit sa akin. Wala akong ibang naririnig sa paligid kundi ang sigawan at sunod-sunod na rataaaataaaaat. A war is on and I have to survive. Kinuha ko ang nakasabit na AK-47 sa balikat ng lalaki at mabilis na pinaputukan ang kanina pang bumabaril sa akin.

"Dammit!"

I heard Atarah's annoyed voice. Nang bumagsak na sa sahig ang mga binaril ko ay agad ko siyang hinahap. Nasa likod ng isang van, yakap-yakap ang brasong nagdurugo.

"S-sugarlove!" Kier was on six meters away from her, hiding behind a stack of cements, looking at her worriedly.

"Stay there! I'm fine!"

Two—no, six men are lurking behind like a prey waiting to attack their food. Hindi iyon napapansin ni Atarah dahil iniinda ang tama niya, Kier on the other hand was oblivious too but he looked ready to jump out of his hiding and went to his injured girlfriend.

I mumbled a few cursed when Kier ran, Atarah screamed, the men shoot. Mabilis akong tumakbo pahabol kay Kier at sinipa siya sa pwet bago pa siya tamaan sa ulo. I pointed the gun towards the enemy, shooting three of them but the remaining three fell too. Atarah shoot them to death.

"Kier!"

Kier lay face flat on the ground. Hinila ko ang kwelyo niya saka siya binagsak sa tabi ni Atarah.

"Nakakainis! Muntikan na akong mamatay dahil sa katangahan mo!" asik ko pero hindi man lang ako pinansin ng dalawa at nagyakapan na tila wala ako sa mundo at wala sila sa giyera.

I rolled my eyes heavenwards. Bakit nga ba kasi ako nandito? Oh! That is because I forgot the plan and it happened that Atarah's team were near my location so I stopped by to help. Pero kung sino pa ang tumulong siya pa ang na-intiyapwera.

"Master!"

I looked behind and saw Rucc and Coby running towards me. Pareho silang may bitbit na rifle, magulo ang mga buhok, madumi ang mukha at may bakas na dugo ang mga damit. I scanned them quickly and sighed in relief when I saw them unharmed, just bruises.

"Good you're here! Grabe hindi nauubos ang mga kalaban! The more you kill them the more they multiply!" reklamo ni Coby.

"Mukhang isang buong Baranggay ang pinadala ni Gustavo sa atin," Rucc shook his head.
