Double Act - Chapter 6
~~ Lara's P.O.V ~~
I tried to block out the audience as I played guitar, but it was a hard thing to do. But I had this knack, James calls it a talent, for getting lost in a song when I play, and I was thankful for that right then. I simply closed my eyes and imagined that I was back in my bedroom. It worked. Well, in my bedroom there wasn't usually ruptuous applause afterwards.
I never expected anything like this. Yeah, I'd seen it on TV many times, but I had never dared to even think that could be me one day because it was always my high hopes that got me crushed in the end. If I wanted something and I didn't get it, my way to cope was sitting in bed with a tub of ice cream. The claps and cheers seemed to last forever, so I decided to open my eyes. My eye lids lifted, the black being replaced by thousands of smiling faces. The audience, all four of the judges on their feet.
I took in the huge audience, but my eyes were drawn to one face in particular. The boy on the panel. He was clapping, but I had enough people clapping for me. What made him stand out was that he was staring at me with a look of awe, adoration. I can't tell you what it was, but it cast butterflies through my insides and set my cheeks on fire.
After what felt like forever, the audience died down and the judges once again took their seats. It had now died down enough for the judges to be heard over the screams. The man I knew to be Gary Barlow began to praise our performance, but since we could barely hear him Livvy and I just grinned and nodded politely. After he'd finished, it was Katy's turn. She was almost in tears. That's right. My sister and I had made Katy Perry cry.
She smiled fondly at us, her gaze flickering from Livvy to me. "Girls," she wiped a tear from her eye. "I just wanna say that you two are the cutest little things that I have ever seen!" she told us, earning wild yells of agreement form the crowd. Livvy giggled, murmuring a thank you into the microphone infront of her. I simply grinned wider.
The crowd quietened to allow Ella to speak. "You two..," she paused to think for words. "...Great performance. I wouldn't change a thing, and I don't think the audience would either." This comment earned another thunderous applause, and once again my sister mumbled a greatful thankyou into her microphone. I wasn't really concentrating on my sister at this point, but I could only imagine that she felt the same as me.
"Louis?" Katy asked, wiping the remaining tears off of her glistening cheeks. It was now time for the final judge to speak. That was his name, Louis. How come I'd never heard of him before. He seemed familiar...
Wait. Louis. Louis... Thomas? Taylor? Something like that. He's in One Direction! Liv has a poster of him above her bed! He's her favourite member of the boyband. So that must be why she's quivering so much.
I was drawn from my thoughts as Louis took a breath to speak. "I think we should vote now." his voice was flat, causing some boo's from the crowd. His face showed no emotion, but his eye held a humurous spark. Gary announced a cheerful yes, along with a happy Ella and an emotional Katy. That just left Louis. There was a tense silence, and time seemed to slow down as Louis paused for what I assumed to be an attempt at dramatic effect. It wasn't dramatic. It just made me want to throttle him. Well, more than I already wanted to throttle him.
He tapped his chin thoughtfully, and sighed. "I'm sorry girls," he shook his head sadly. My heart dropped. He didn't like it? But he stood! He gave us a standing ovation! He couldn't change his mind, not now. I knew we were through, but I don't think I could go home knowing that one judge didn't enjoy our performance. But there was nothing I could do but wait for his answer.
"But I think you might just have to give another performance like that at bootcamp..."

"Girls, I am so proud of you!" James cried, ruffling Lara's hair. When he reached over to do the same to me I pushed his hand away. I rolled my eyes in annoyance, but couldn't stop the grin of pride spreading from ear to ear. Four. Yes, yes, yes and yes. Who'd of thought it? Lara didn't seem to be able to believe it at all, even as we walked off of the stage. She seemed a little subdued, but I didn't bother to ask.
I was too busy freaking out that Louis fricking Tomlinson had sent us through to bootcamp. It was obvious he loved me. We were going to get married, and I would become best friends with Niall, Liam, Harry and Zayn. That was my plan. It's a good plan, but Lara doesn't seem to think so. I'm kidding, I'm kidding. I'd marry them all!
As we walked along the hallway, chattering exitedly, a large man rushed up behind us. "Excuse me! Excuse me! Miss?" he panted, out of breath from hurrying this far. I automatically assumed he was calling for me, and turned abruptly to face him. "Lara?" he asked, glancing between my sister and I. I let my shoulders slump, and Lara stepped forward gingerly.
He nodded. "I was asked to give you this." he told her, handing her a strip of paper. She took it, her eyebrows tilted into a confused frown. Her eyes scanned the paper, a small smile making it's way on to her face. My head was filled with thoughts, a mixture of anger and curiousity. Anger and curiousity had a short wrestling match in my head, and anger won.
As soon as the man had rushed back down the hallway, I snatched the paper from her grip. She made an attempt to grab it back, but I took it out of reach. "What's this then, squat?" I snapped. James began to scold me but I was too busy staring at the piece of paper in my hand.
'I told you I'd be watching, didn't I?' But this wasn't the most infuriating part. The most infuriating part was the eleven digits below the writing. Not only did she have the nerve to bunk off, but she asked for the guy's number too?
She's soo dead.
