Double Act - Chapter 3
~~ Lara's P.O.V ~~
I stared around me, clutching my guitar to my chest. Everyone looked so professional, rushing around like they’d been doing this all of their lives. And here was me, scared to death, trembling, and never having played in front of an audience this big in my life. I didn’t even want to…
The queuing and the numbers all seemed to have passed by without me even noticing. I looked down at my number, 6 digits that meant nothing to me at all. The pins were rather uncomfortable, but that was the least of my problems.
I was vaguely aware of a man with a clipboard and earpiece telling us that we would be on in about half an hour. James took my hand and squeezed it gently, and I looked up at him. He smiled down at me, trying to reassure me.
I began to imagine all of the people in the audience staring at me, and my palms went clammy. I gripped my guitar to stop myself from falling over. I took stagefright to a whole new level.
“I can’t do this…” I whispered to my older brother, letting go of his hand and leaving him with Mollie and Livvy.
I had to get away. I just had to. No way was I going in front of thousands of people. Not to mention the judge panel. I just couldn’t do that. Liv would be fine on her own!
~~ Louis' P.O.V ~~
I ran a hand through my already messy hair. Someone called out that we had a half hour break before the next act, and I sighed with relief.
“I can’t do this…” I muttered, exhausted from just sitting here. I pushed my chair back and dashed into the left wing.
I couldn’t deal with the bright lights any more, and I didn’t want to judge contestants. I hated the very idea of it, but management didn’t. That’s why I ended up sitting amongst Gary Barlow, Katy Perry and Ella Henderson.
I liked Ella. She was just like me. She didn’t want to be here. When she ended up winning X Factor in 2012, her whole life was turned upside down. She was just in it for the music, but apparently that wasn't enough any more.
Just like me.
I didn’t know where I was going, but I found myself backstage amongst the stage crew. Some contestants recognised me, but I didn’t feel like talking to fans right now.
I kept walking. Away from the lights, away from the microphones, away from the cocky contestants that would have their dreams crushed in a matter of minutes. By me.
Away from all of that and straight into someone, knocking them flying and leaving me with an aching forehead. Oops.
