Double Act - Chapter 22

~~ Louis' P.O.V ~~

"You certain about this decision, Lou?" Joey asked for the hundredth time. I rolled my eyes, but flashed him a smile. No good would come from being rude to him, after he'd been nothing but friendly to all of us lads.

"I'm positive, JoJo!" I chirped, proud of my spontaneously given nickname. He glanced at me in confusion before chuckling and hurrying away. I had learnt that he was a very busy man, and if you held his attention for more than about 10 seconds you must be either important to him or able to fire him on the spot.

I sighed, and turned back to my phone as I grasped it in one hand. I wasn't doing anything inparticular, I was just scanning the news pages. I saw the section about X Factor gossip and tapped on it curiously. There was another link to backstage rumours and gossip, and I once again let curiosity get the better of me as I pressed on the link.

'Is there a relationship blossoming between Four Life's Dylan and Double Act's Lara?'

No.

Well, I hoped not.

My jaw clenched at the picture of them holding hands as they walked along a path, Lara's gaze on the pavement whilst Dylan shamelessly gawped at her. I shook my head angrily, scowling as I put my phone away before I broke it with my suddenly harsh grip.

What an absolute-

"LOUIS!"

I must have jumped about a metre in the air at the shout from 2 inches away from my ear. I whipped round to find Niall and Harry in hysterics, with Liam smirking good-naturedly and Zayn smiling cheekily, both eyes trained on the screen of his phone.

"Jesus christ, Harry!" I yelled. "You scared the crap out of me!" I shoved his shoulder, and he stumbled backwards, still laughing. Niall's contagious laughter eventually cracked me, and I let a smile slide it's way on to my lips.

"D-dude! Y-you should have s-seen your f-face!" Niall managed through the chuckles. I ruffled his hair before turning my back to the lads and making my way to the sofa at the opposite end of the conservatory. I sat down on the couch and ran a hand through my hair.

I was announcing to the groups who I had decided to put through to the live shows, and I couldn't have been dreading it more. I had made the right decisions, I was sure of it. I just wasn't looking forward to telling all those amazingly talented people that they weren't good enough. I've had it done to me even before this stage, so I couldn't begin to imagine how bad it must feel to get this far and find out you just missed out.

"You nervous?" Liam asked, as if reading my thoughts as he sat beside me. I puffed out my cheeks and nodded.

"It'll be hilarious to see the reactions to the good news, though," I admitted.

Then I got thinking. What will Lara do? Will she be expecting it? Will Lara's sister be as crazy as she described her to be? As the camera crew set up and the other boys were ushered out of the room, one thought stuck in my mind.

God, I hope Livvy doesn't faint on me...

The loud sobs of a girl who had just had her dreams crushed filled the room as she was comforted by her bandmates, and I gulped. With any luck, Liv would keep herself together better than that.

I squeazed my sisters clammy hand to reassure her, but it didn't seem to help any. She had been staring at the same spot for a good ten minutes now, jerking her knee up and down at a steady beat that had begun to annoy me and everyone else in the room, and my lame attempts at comfort had done nothing to draw her out of her state of worry.
