Double Act - Chapter 36

~~ Louis' P.O.V ~~

I should have expected the furious and panicked phone call from Niall ever since Jennifer had told the newspapers about our supposed relationship (and by supposed I mean completely ridiculous, disgusting and fake. Just clearing that up). But as I answered my phone backstage in the early afternoon of Sunday and lifted it to my ear, knowing it was him, I was a little startled to hear his voice in it's unusual state of anger.

"Hel--"

"Louis, what the hell do you think you're doing, you dick?!" he snarled in my ear. I could picture his face with a frown and instantly didn't want to think of it. His features didn't suit a frown, of any kind, and I hated to think that I was the one to cause it.

I was confused at first. "I'm sorry? I don't think I've done anything dick-worthy, lately," I had barely got the words out before he barked out his reply.

"You bloody know how much I hate that... that bitch, and you go ahead and... I just can't believe it!" he roared, seeming oblivious to my previous reply. "Were you not around last year!? You know, when she broke my heart and almost ruined Zayn's life?! Are you that much of a ba--"

"Woah!" I interrupted before the insult. "Niall, buddy, calm down," and after realising that this would probably cause another rant, I added, "Let me explain,"

I heard a shaky sigh and a slam of a door, leading me to think Niall had entered his garden. "You've got five minutes,"

I almost chuckled at how dramatic he made it sound, like a bomb was going to go off, but then I was reminded of how mad he was and swallowed it.

"Okay," I said, running a hand through my hair and standing from the sofa I was slouched on. "Well, we aren't dating, okay? Just gonna start with that," I began, not allowing space for Niall to interrupt because I was certain his question would be answered momentarily. "She told the papers that we were. Don't ask why, I don't know, she just..." I sighed. "Did,"

"So you just--"

"Let me finish, will you?!" I cried, exasperated. I widened my eyes at his impatience and began pacing back and forth in small backstage room. "I didn't like it, I really didn't, mate. I wanted to strangle her. I told her to go away and was going to clear up the lie but then--"

"But then what?"

I growled. "If you didn't interrupt me, you would know! Shut up!" I told him, pausing in my pacing for a moment before continuing.

"Anyway. So I told Harry and he said that it would be a good thing - and don't even think of interrupting!" I cried. "He said that if the fans and the press thought that I was dating the wicked witch of wotsit-land, then she would get all of the hate and not..." I trailed off as I realised Niall didn't know about Lara. "Um.. someone else," I finished pathetically.

There was a moment of silence before Niall spoke. "Oh," he said simply.

I frowned, stopping in my tracks. "Oh? So you go balistic at me for something I didn't even do and all you can say is... 'oh'?" I asked in disbelief, chuckling in spite of my annoyance.

Completely ignoring my comment, Niall continued. "Wait, who's this "someone else", then?"

I swallowed, and coughed. "Um.. oh, it's... this... girl," I managed to mumble.

I could practically feel his eyes rolling through the speaker. "No, I thought it would be a fricking dog!" he cried sarcastically. "C'mon, man, tell me!"
