Double Act - Chapter 39

~~ Dylan's P.O.V ~~

I walked in to the dressing room after my brother and bumped in to a pretty girl with a light pink dress on. SH stumbled backwards, knocking in to a railing with some empty hangers on it. I caught the railing and steadied the girl on her feet.

"I am so sorry, are you allr-" I froze, my jaw dropping. "You- .. I-.. Lara?!"

She smiled sheepishly, an adorable blush rising to her cheeks. "Hi Dylan,"

My eyes widened and I stared at her. "You're wearing a dress!" I exclaimed like an idiot, mentally face palming as soon as the words left my mouth.

She threw her head back laughing like a little kid. "Oh wow, nothing gets past you, does it?" she teased, rolling her eyes and glancing down at her pink ensemble. "I'm still a bit unstable in these heels," she confessed shyly.

I grinned. "I can see that," I nodded, laughing as she pushed my arm lightly. A calm silence settled over us for a few moments before she spoke again.

"Dyl, can I talk to you outside for a sec?" she asked, her eyes filled with something like guilt. I brushed it away and grinned at her. All our past conversations forgotten, I stupidly nodded and backed out the door with her teetering after me. I closed the door behind us and turned to find Lara staring with a light frown on her face.

"Why did you do that back there?" she asked, her voice firm as she gestured towards the stage.

My mind went fuzzy. "I don't... er..."

"Dylan, you must know how that made me feel," she said, her hand flying to her heart and her eyes taking on a forlorn look. I gulped. "You basically said that I was breaking your heart, and it made me feel so... guilty,"

My temper flared. "It's not my fault I'm jealous of the person who gets to date the girl I love!" I protested, trying desperately for my voice to stay down.

Lara scowled, her face burning. "Stop throwing that in my face, Dylan!" she hissed. "I get it already,"

My expression softened, a familiar ache returning to my chest. "Sorry for boring you," I said, giving her a withering look. Without letting her protest about that not being what she meant, I continued. "Is there anything else you wanted to tell me?"

She faltered, then her expression hardened. "You think you're the victim here, don't you? Aw, poor little Dylan! Not getting what he wanted so he pulls a big hissy fit about it until I come running back, huh?" she snarled. "Well it isn't going to work. You are a friend.. well, you were," she corrected, folding her arms and looking to the floor. "I don't know if I can stand this any longer,"

I spluttered. "Oh, so I made you feel a little guilty so your cutting me off?"

She fumed, her eyes narrowing. "No, Dylan. You're jealous, so you're making me feel like crap until I come back to you and confess my undying love," she spat in reply. "I won't put up with that,"

Just as I was about to fire out an angry reply, the door opened, and Liv flounced out. She looked pretty, wearing a golden sparkly dress, but not as pretty as Lara. She smiled at her sister, not seeming to notice me, and linked an arm through hers.

"Ready to go, Lara?" she asked cheerily, her smile seeming a little forced.

Lara wiped the angry look from her face and forced a grin at her sister. "Yeah, let's go," she sighed, not looking at me as she turned and started down the corridor.

Liv stopped after a few steps. "Oop! I need to go and get my earrings! Meet you down there in a minute!" she chirped spinning round and retracing her steps as Lara continued down the hallway. But instead of entering the dressing room, she stopped and glared at me.
