Double Act - Chapter 20
~~ Lara's P.O.V ~~
"Hey, girlies!" James' slightly weary voice rang out in our bedroom as I clicked the button to put him on speaker. Me and Liv greeted him in unison, smiling widely at the sound of his voice. We had phoned Molly just to check on how our brother was doing, and to tell them all about our performance.
"So it went well?" he asked. I smiled, knowing that he was wearing a proud grin across his face as he spoke.
"I think so," Liv shrugged, adjusting her position on the bed.
I nodded in agreement. "Well, that's for them to decide, isn't it?" I asked, the question not needing an answer. "So what are you doing now, J?" I asked, not wanting the whole conversation to be about Liv and I. After all, talking about other things took my mind off the competition at hand. People at this very moment were discussing our futures, our lives, and I found that very scary.
James chuckled, replying "Lara, there's not much you can do in a hospital,"
I groaned, quickly remembering that he was right. "Sorry, sorry. Stupid question,"
"It's okay," he said. "Another nurse just came in to check on me, and Molly almost killed me," A muffled squark emerged from the background noise, and James burst into loud laughter.
"I didn't!" Molly cried, obviously having taken the phone away. "It's this stupid bed and it's stupid remote!" she explained hurriedly. My sister and I sniggered at this, imagining Molly wrestling with the remote as the hospital bed folded James in half.
I sighed. "Well, we'd better head off. It's already quarter to eleven," I stated, glancing up at the wall clock. Liv said her goodbyes before leaving the room to change out of her pyjamas.
"Bye, J. Be careful!" I told my brother. He chuckled, and said the same back. Molly let him rest, taking the mobile out of the room.
"See you soon, Lara!" Molly said, her smile audible through the phone.
I smiled, replying "Bye, Molls. You look after my big brother!" I told her. She laughed, and said goodbye one last time before hanging up. I put my phone on the bedside table, and wriggled under my duvet.
"Lara, get up!" Liv's voice sqealed from the bathroom. I peered over my blankets at my sister, who had her hair wrapped up in a towel, piled on top of her head. She was clutching her phone, her eyes scanning it eagerly. I frowned, and sat up a little.
"What?" I mumbled, sleepily rubbing an eye. She glanced up at me from the screen and smirked before shoving my legs to the side and settling her bum on my covers. I didn't bother protesting. Nothing would make her budge now that she was comfy.
"Listen to this," she said, clearing her throat with a sharp cough. "After 2 days of deliberating, star judge Louis Tomlinson..." her voice went squeaky as she spoke his name before she continued, and my heart did a little flutter in my chest.
I scowled. Why was my heart fluttering in my chest at the sound of his name? I hated him! Didn't I? Well, I was trying awfully hard to dislike him with every inch of my being, but it was a hard thing to do. Every time I tried to, the image of his bright blue eyes glinting with silent humour popped in to my mind, along with his dazzling smile that quickened my heart pace without him even knowing...
"Lara? Hello?" I blinked hard, and found Liv's frowning face. "Earth to Lara!"
I pushed her away roughly. "Shut up! What?"
She rolled her eyes. "You weren't listening, were you?" I shrugged and shook my head. Liv sighed, and shook her head. "Daydreaming about Louis, I suppose?"
