Double Act - Chapter 37

~~ Louis' P.O.V ~~

I watched helplessly as the two girls shuffled off of the stage, Liv waving to the camera in a friendly manor whilst Lara kept her head down. At the last second, her eyes flittered in my direction, as they had done in the performance, and time seemed to slow down. She blinked, as if bringing herself out of a daze, and smiled. Her eyes looked happy too, and it sent a warm feeling through the length of my body to the tips of my toes.

I heard the X Factor music and realised we had gone to a break. I felt a warm hand on my shoulder and turned to find Ella. She wasn't looking at me. She was following my gaze; looking at Lara.

"She's a pretty girl, isn't she?" she said, brushing her hair from her face.

I fumbled with my words, my throat seeming to close. "I- er, I guess," I tried, hoping that I sounded at least a little bit convincing. I don't think I did.

"Tell me something, Louis," she continued. "How come the headlines say that you're in a relationship with that Jennifer person," she began, pausing to turn and give me a questioning look. "When you're clearly in love with Lara?"

God dammit.

I didn't know what to say to that. Ella was one of the nicest people I knew, and also one of the most talented, and to have her catch on almost immediately to what I was doing made me feel uneasy. I thought desperately for something to say, but all that I managed was a sigh. I slumped my shoulders in a defeated shrug, and Ella gave me a triumphant smile.

She nodded, but didn't say anything else. She turned away, and struck up a conversation with a member of the technical crew. I let out a shaky sigh of relief and relaxed a little in to my seat.

Lara and Liv were amazing tonight. I was pleased with my song choice, loving the song myself, and was in a rather good mood. I quickly forgot about my conversation with Ella and began teasing Gary about having no acts left in the competition.

"Louis, I won this last year!"

"Shame you won't this year, isn't it?" I joked, earning a fond slap on the head from the older man. "Hey! If you hurt me, management will sue!" I protested teasingly, sticking my tongue out at him before he put me in a weak headlock. I was soon released, however, when the X Factor music was played again.

"Welcome back to the X Factor, where we are just about to reveal the results of the wildcard act that you, the public, have been voting to bring back in to the competition tonight!" Dermot's voice rang out around the arena as he stared confidently down the camera lense. The lights in the arena span wildly before focusing back on the stage where the wildcard was soon to appear.

"So, ladies and gentlemen," Dermot said, pausing as the crowd began to settle down again. "Please welcome back to the competition..."

I let out the highest screech I could muster and leapt up in the air as 4 familiar lads bounced out through the doors on the stage. I let my excitement take over as I bounced on the balls of my feet and clutched my trembling hands together. It took all of my strength not to go out there and hug them all until they went blue.

But I couldn't believe they were back! I had missed those damn boys so much more than I thought I would! I usually had woken up in the X Factor house to at least one of them pounding down our door. It never felt like we were competing against them because it just seemed as though we were supporting each other all the time.
