Chapter 37- Unanswered Question

“Hello?” I stir at the sound of Rae’s voice, not waking enough to physically verbalize any words. It’s too early. “Hello?” Rae yells again, fully breaking into my subconscious.

“Go away, Rae…” I mumble, barely audible.

“Skylar!” Rae shouts, grabbing the cover and snatching them off. I immediately shiver, reaching around me to find cover. I feel something warm fall over me and cradle me. I lean into the warmth, a shiver running over me.

“Oh my God! What the hell?”

“Shut up Rae…” I mumble.

“I will not. What the hell is going on?” She still shouts.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about…”

“You don’t? Why are you in Gage’s bed Skylar?” I open my eyes at that question; as soon as I do I am staring into Gage’s blue eyes. His face I know is a mirror of mine. My eyes travel down to look at our intertwined, half naked bodies. I cringe and look back up into Gage’s face.

“I can explain…” We both say at once.

“Oh really, well I’d love to hear it…” Rae says sarcastically.

“Look Rae, I can explain.” I tell her sitting up. She shakes her head as she looks at me. I look down, taking in the sight of my black lace bra… I look back up at her as I guiltily cross my arms over my chest. There’s a shift on the bed as Gage rolls over and picks up one of his shirts.

“Here Sky…” He tells me, handing me his shirt.

“Thank you…” I tell him as I pull the shirt on.

“I’m going to go grab something to drink. Give you too a minute okay.” Gage says climbing off the bed.

“You go do that.” Rae barks at him. I watch him as he walk to the door, taking the sight in. Gage really does have a nice body.

“You want anything Sky?” Gage asks, leaning against the door. My face heats up at his question. I know what he is meaning, but I also know he caught me staring.

“Yes…” I answer back, willing myself to look back up at him. I can see a flash of lust flash through his eyes as he nods his head.

“Can do, Rae you want anything?”

“Nope…” She answers through clenched teeth.

“Okay then.” He leans off the door jam smiling at me as he turns to head to the kitchen. “I’ll be back.” I smile as I watch him walk away.

“What the Hell?” Rae all but shouts when Gage fully leaves, I look up at her frightened.

“What Rae, why are you so angry?” I ask.

“Why am I angry?” She looks down at me perplexed. “Why am I so angry?” She repeats the question this time louder.

“Yes…”

“Because, how could you do this to Ethan?” At her question, my heart falls into my stomach.

“How could I do this to Ethan?”

“Yes. He loves you, and instead of being with him you’re here screwing Gage? How could you? Did you even go The Shack last night or come straight here.” I sit there and stare at her as I fill my anger rising within me.

“Really? He loves me? He loves me? If he loves me than why was he kissing another woman last night?” She looks at me floored.

“He was doing what?” She asks, sitting down on the bed in front of me.
