“Well…” I tell him looking into his eyes. I see worry flash through his eyes, and my mind goes blank. He’s worried? I feel the butterflies in my stomach, and I try to push them aside. It’s not like he has feelings for me.
“Well what Skylar?” Ethan’s voice brings me back to reality.
“What?” I ask forgetting what we were talking about. Yeah a real blonde moment... Ethan looks at me in frustration.
“Well what did you tell Gage?” He asks, and I feel my cheeks heat up.
“Oh, well…”
“Not again Skylar please you’re killing me.” He tells me shaking his head and running his hand through his hair. I bite my lip and look at him. He looks so sexy when he does that. Why does he have to look so good? He looks up at me and I smile.
“Well, if you must know.” I start and look at him, “We talked and he admitted he has feelings for me.” I tell him looking down. I hear him take a breath, and fight the want, the need, to look at him.
“Well, what did you tell him Skylar?” He asks, and I can’t take it any longer. I look up into his green eyes, and I smile.
“I told him the truth.” He looks at me a hint of amusement in his eyes, mixed with annoyance, and worry.
“Okay and the truth is?” He asks.
“I told him that I loved him,” I start and I watch as Ethan takes a breath. His face pales a little and my heart starts beating out of control. He looks down and tries to compose himself, and I try to slow my pounding heart. Could this mean what I want it to mean? I shake the thoughts from my head, and continue. “But only as a brother.” I finish and Ethan looks back up at me. He smiles, and when it reaches his eyes they look like they are glowing.
“So what did he say when you told him that?” He asks, his eyes still glowing.
“He said that he understood. He wanted to know if I would give him a chance.” I tell Ethan, and the light in his green eyes dims. His jaw clenches, and the worry returns.
“He did? Well what did you tell him?” He asks, and I look down. He closes the small gap between us. So that he is standing in front of me. He puts his hand under my chin, and lifts it so that I meet him in the eyes. “Skylar what did you tell him?”
“Well, I didn’t know what to tell him. He all but confesses his love for me, and I didn’t want to break his heart.” Ethan removes his hand, and turns his back towards me.
“So you told him yes didn’t you?” He asks, and I can’t help but reach out and touch him. I walk over, and put my hand on his arm. He tenses for a moment, but then he does something I didn’t expect. He puts his hand over mine, and then he turns to face me. Still holding my hand.
I forget everything in that moment. It’s just me and him. Together. Alone. This close. He looks at me, and my heart melts. I long to run my fingers through his hair, to touch his face, to kiss his lips, but I can’t I tell myself he’s my teacher.
I take a small step back, but I don’t let go of his hand. I look at him, and I think that I see disappointment flash across his face.
“Actually, I still told him no.” He looks up at me, and his eyes light back up again. This time he closes the gap between us.
“You told him no? Why did you tell him no Sky?” I smile when he calls me Sky, and chills run down my spine. When I shiver he looks at me and I feel myself blush.
“That’s the first time you called me Sky.” I explain to him, and he smiles at me, and I feel my knees go weak. This man does things to me that no man has ever done.
