“What do you mean you got a feeling?” I ask slipping into a pair of dark grey skinny jeans.
“I don’t know how to explain it. I just have a feeling.”
“A bad feeling? A good feeling? An I’m gonna die feeling?”
“No, I don’t know. It’s just an uneasy feeling. It doesn’t matter. You look hot.”
“That makes me feel so much better.” I tell her sarcastically going to look at myself in the mirror. Okay, I have to admit I did look pretty good. Along with the grey skinny jeans I was wearing a light pink shirt and black boots. Rae had curled my hair and done my make up.
“You look great Sky.” At the sound of Gage’s voice I jumped. I look up to see him smiling at me in the doorway.
“Thanks Gage.”
“He’s one lucky guy.” I can hear the hurt laced in his words, and see the longing in his eyes. I can also see the peace on his face.
“Thank you Gage.” He leans off the doorway and makes his way slowly over to me. He places his hands on my arms, and my stomach flips from the touch.
“You’re welcome. But just know that if he hurts you I will consider it my personal right as your best friend to break his face.” I cringe at his words knowing that he means it. The image of Gage’s fist crashing into Ethan’s face makes my stomach churn. Ethan’s got muscles, don’t get me wrong, but Gage has more. I don’t know how that fight would end, but it wouldn’t be pretty. I know that.
“Don’t worry Gage. Ethan’s a good guy.” I hear Rae say behind us.
“I know, but just in case.” He says smiling down at me. “I’d do anything for you.”
“I know you would Gage.” I tell him, wrapping my arms around him. He holds me tight for a moment, before pulling back, and placing a sweet kiss on my forehead.
“Damn straight, now go get him.”
“Okay, I’m going.”
“I’m walking you to the door!” Rae says when I reach her. I roll my eyes, but link arms with her. She hands me a jacket as I reach the door. I put it on and look at her. The worried look has returned to her face.
“What?”
“Nothing, just be careful okay.” I smile assumingly at her.
“I’m always careful Rae. Don’t worry, I’ll text you later.” I tell her, hugging her.
“Okay, okay go and have fun. Not too much fun though.”
“I’m not you Rae.” I tell her, laughing as I walk out the door.
“Whatever… Love you!”
“Love you too!” I yell as I get into my car. I back out of the driveway as an uneasy feeling washes over me. “Great, now I’m nervous. Thanks a lot Rae.” I mutter as I put my car in drive and head towards the shack.
Gage’s POV************ (For the first time ever)
I watch out of the window as Skylar drives away. My heart drops as her tail lights fade from view.
“He doesn’t know how lucky he is…” I mutter as Rae walks into the room.
“I don’t know. I think he does a little.” I shrug not turning away from the window.
“I hope he does.” I say as I continue to stare down at the driveway, willing Skylar’s car to pull back up, back to me. “Back to me… Who am I kidding?” I ask, banging my head against the window.
