Walking into school today, it was like walking in for the first time. I say that because for the first time I notice the bright colorful posters, announcing Homecoming. The posters that have been up for a month, and that I haven’t noticed.
How much of a fog have I been in?
How blind have I been?
I shake my head, as I walk to my locker. Not oblivious to all the glances I’m getting. When I walk by, everyone turns and looks. All of my friends smile at me, a few of them walk over and hug me. Some of them even welcomed me back. I shake my head as I finally make it to my locker.
I open it, and go to put my books in it, but someone runs into my back pushing me forward. The impact forces me into my locker, and causes it to shut. All at once an intense pain shoots up my arm, and I grab it as I turn to face the culprit.
“What the hell?” I question as I turn to face Allison… I should have known it was her.
“Oh Skylar, sorry I didn’t see you there.” She tells me, pausing to look me up and down. “Nice to see you returned to the land of the living.” She tells me, and the weird thing is she sounded like she meant it.
“Thanks, good to see you’re still a bitch.” I tell her, and she narrows her eyes at me.
“And you’re still the same.” She remarks before she walks away. I glare after her, rubbing my arm. It throbs every time I touch it. I roll my shoulders and shrug it off.
“Skylar?” I turn at the sound of my name, and see Gage. I smile when I see him, and his mouth drops open. “Skylar!” He calls, and I don’t have time to think before I’m tackled on the floor. I wince when my shoulder hits the floor.
Pain shoots up my arm, instantly, and I know that I’m going to have to go to the nurse, at some point and time. I don’t know when, but it will be some point and time today.
“Oh my god, I’m so happy to see you!” Gage tells me, hugging me.
“Gage, you’ve seen me every day.” I tell him wheezing a little from the lack of airflow to my lungs.
“Gage, get off of Skylar!” I hear someone yell. A moment later, Gage gets off of me and I take a deep breath.
“I’m sorry, I was just happy to see Sky as herself.” Gage tells Rae. I get off the floor, wincing a little. I smile at Rae.
“Rae have I ever told you that you have impeccable timing?” I ask, opening my locker back up.
“No, but there is a first time for everything.” She tells me laughing. I get my books out and shut my locker, laughing. They both look at me, shocked looks on their faces. They look at each other smiling.
“She’s back.” They both say, and I shake my head at them. The bell rings signaling first period.
“Bye guys.” I yell back at them, as I head to my class. When I walk into class, it goes silent. Everyone turns to look at me. I watch as Tiffany turns in her seat. When she spots me, she jumps out of her seat.
“Skylar!” She squeals as she runs to throw her arms around me. I wobble a little from the impact, and laugh.
“Hey Tiff.”
“It’s so good to see you… looking like you.” She tells me, her voice dropping a little. I see the same sadness in her eyes that I saw in Rae and Gage’s eyes.
“I know, it’s good to be back.” I tell her as she throws her arms around me again.
“She’s back!” Tiffany squeals and the entire room starts clapping. I smile and feel my face heat up. I go to take my seat, preparing myself to be bored.
