10 minutes later I’m walking out of the counselor’s office with Rae, and walking towards the caffeteria. Rae keeps looking at me from the corner of her eye. Finally I can’t take it.

“Okay Rae spill it, why do you keep looking at me like that?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” She tells me, looking away.

“Don’t give me that, bull. Spill it now.” She sighs looking at me.

“Okay, I’m just wondering if dropping Ethan’s class is what you really should do.” I stop walking and look at her.

“Are you serious?”

“Yes, you have wanted to take that class for the last 2 years. I don’t think you should give that up.”

“I don’t want to give it up, but I can’t stand looking at him everyday. He sees me kissing Dylan and breaks his nose. Then he kisses me and leaves, not letting me explain myself. He broke my heart.” I can feel tears beginning to form, but I don’t allow them to fall.

“You broke his too.” Rae tells me and I sigh.

“I know, you’re not making this any easier Rae.” I tell her turning and walking towards the caffeteria.

“I’m sorry but as your best friend it’s not my job to make things easier. It’s my job to make sure you make the right decision. I don’t think this is one.”

“Why don’t you think this is the right decision?”

“Because you’re still in love with him, and I know that he still loves you.” My heart starts pounding in my chest at the thought.

“He’s not in love with me.” I tell her trying to sound certain.

“Who are trying to convince me or you?” I stop walking for a second and look at Rae.

“Why do you have to know me so well?”

“Because I am your best friend. Now answer the question.”

“I don’t know…” She wraps her arm around my shoulders as we keep walking. “I’m so confused.”

“I know you are, but if I were you I wouldn’t let someone like him go.”

“Let him go? He was never mine to begin with.”

“Ahh whatever ya’ll had something and still do. So are you ever going to tell me what was going on in Mrs. James’ office?” Rae asks as we walk into the cafferteria. I open my mouth to respond but I don’t.

I don’t because when I walk into the caffeteria it falls silent. Like hear a pin drop, silent. I look over at Rae, who just shrugs her shoulders at me. All of a sudden the caffeteria erupts into a thunderous applause. Everyone starts cheering, chanting my name. I look over at Rae who is now smiling at me.

“What the hell is going on?” Rae looks at me and smiles, before pointing over to where they list the names of the canidates for homecoming queen.

My mouth drops open when I see the names.

“I was nominated for Homecoming queen? Are you freakin’ serious?” I ask, grabbing Rae’s arm. “Did you know?” She smiles sheepishly at me.

“Yeah, that’s actually why I came to find you. I just kind of forgot when I saw you with Ethan.” She tells me, and I shake my head at her. I walk over to our lunch table as everyone continues to clap. Several students pat me on the back. Some congratulate me, a few of them tell me they are going to vote for me.

I make it to the table, and I see the plate Rae bought me. It’s piled high with food. I sit down and look at her. She can’t be serious.

“Rae, what is this?” I ask pointing to the plate.
