Friday, that’s what today is. It’s my first day back to school, and it’s also my birthday. Which means that tonight is my birthday party…saying I am excited is an understatement. I walk into school and I am immediately ambushed.

“Happy Birthday Skylar!” I hear Rae yell as we fall on the ground. I hear laughter above us, and I look up to see Gage and Ethan looking down at us.

“Well don’t just stand there, help me.” I tell them, and they laugh before pulling Rae off of me. Ethan reaches down and takes my hand. He pulls me up, and pulls me close to him.

“Happy Birthday.” He tells me, and I feel a million butterflies in my stomach. He looks down at me, and I get lost in his green eyes. That is until I am pulled away from him, and squished into a bear hug by Gage.

“Happy Birthday Sky, I’ve missed you!”

“I missed you too Gage, but I can’t breathe.” I tell him wheezing.

“Oh sorry, I just got excited.” He tells me dropping me. I land on my feet, and take a deep breath. The bell rings, and I curse under my breath. I wave by to my friends, and run to my locker.

I grab the books I need, and run to Economics. I reach it just as the late bell rings. I frown when I don’t even see the teacher. I ran for nothing? Not that I’m not used to running, but I don’t usually run fast. Plus I have been sick… I don’t think overexertion is good for your body.

I see Tiffany, and she smiles at me. I go and take my seat, and she turns around to face me.

“Happy Birthday, and thank God you’re back. It has been so boring without you here.”

“Has it really been that bad?”

“Yes! It’s boring anyway, but I didn’t have anyone to laugh with.”

“I’m so sorry. Are you coming to the party tonight?” I ask, and she smiles.

“I sure am, you didn’t think I would miss it did you?” I laugh at her comment, and I open my mouth to respond, when the door opens and Mr. Johnson walks in. I sigh and try to pay attention as he gets into a lecture about consumer, supply and demand.

Halfway through the class, my mind drifts off. It of course travels to Ethan. In the middle of my daydream, I feel my phone vibrate. I pull it out of my pocket and look at it. My heart skips a beat when I see who it’s from.

                [I know I already told you, but I wanted to tell you again, Happy Birthday Skylar.]

                {Thank you Ethan, but don’t you have a class to teach?}

                [They can wait. This was important.]

                {Was it more important than your job?}
