[New Kids On The Block]
___

It was that time of year again, pumpkins on every corner of town with Halloween decorations not that far behind them. The leaves on trees were changing from their bright green to orange, yellow, and brown as the seasons changed into the time of horror movies and ghostly ghouls. The past year hadn't been very eventful for the town but (Y/n)'s life had been flipped after Catherine decided on leaving Hawkins to live with her and Pannacotta's grandma in Chicago, leaving (Y/n)'s summer to be spoiled and him locking himself in his room. It took Bruno many attempts to even get the teen to leave his bedroom until summer vacation ended and he was forced out by his parents.

Now, it was nearing the end of October and the second month of the last year of high school for (Y/n), Bruno and Abbacchio. Two of the three sat in (Y/n)'s car, reading over the paper that would decide (Y/n)'s fate in getting a job that would help him get out of this blasted town.

"It's..." Bruno trailed off as his blue eyes scanned the papers again, his eyebrows furrowed with a slightly confused expression on his face. The college essay was a work, that was for sure, and Bruno was struggling to figure out how (Y/n) managed to write this without it being a million pages long. "It's definitely intriguing." He turned to the teen in the drivers seat and smiled but frowned when he seen that (Y/n) was giving him a look that explained everything he was feeling. "It's not bad or anything, I'm just trying to understand some things."

(Y/n) sighed before taking the paper from Bruno and crumpling it, tossing it into the back of his car and covering his face with his hands. "It's awful, I know it is. I'll never get out of this place." He grumbled making Bruno reach over and place a hand on his back, pulling his hands away to see his face. (Y/n) looked at him with a defeated face, the desperation from how much he wanted to escape being clear in his expression and it made Bruno's heart drop. If (Y/n) left, there was no guarantee that he'd ever see him again after that and especially not if he decides to go to Chicago to find Catherine again. "Tell me what's wrong with it, please, Bruno."

Bruno chuckled through his emotions before unbuckling his seatbelt and turning around to grab the crumpled paper, carefully uncrumpling it to see the writing again. He didn't want (Y/n) to get too worked up about it, it wasn't that bad at all, he just tended to go off topic a lot and make comparisons that didn't make much sense. "You did good, (Y/n). You just need to stick to a topic and not go off on a tangent that doesn't have anything to do with what you're writing." Bruno explained and (Y/n) ran a hand through his hair as he exhaled loudly from how confusing and hard it was to write an essay.

"We can work on this later, let's get to class." (Y/n) muttered while Bruno reread the words on the pages, would they accept him if he wrote about what they went through last year? How they saved a child from a creature that came from a world that was similar to theirs? Bruno pushes the thoughts away as he folded the essay up and shoved it into his bag for later, opening his door to follow (Y/n)'s actions and getting out of the car. (Y/n) rounded the vehicle to stand beside Bruno and opened his mouth to say something but was cut off by the sound of music blaring from an approaching car, his eyes landing on the purple Camaro that whipped into the parking lot.

Bruno glanced over at it with a raised brow, wondering who this was because this situation had never happened before and the car was unfamiliar. Nobody here owned something so flashy as that, even (Y/n) who was on the more wealthier side didn't have one. "Who's that?" (Y/n) asked but didn't get an answer as the music turned off and the doors opened to reveal a pink haired girl around Fugo's age, an unenthused look on her face as she quickly ran off towards the middle school. The person that caught (Y/n)'s attention was the guy that stepped out of the drivers side, (Y/n) jaw dropping slightly at the different sight.
