Bruno pushed his black hair behind his ear and out of his face when the wind from his open window blew it around, his eyes watching the passing scenery outside. (Y/n) and him didn't talk much on the drive to the formers house but the silence wasn't as awkward or uncomfortable as the two would've thought. The open fields that were owned by the local farmers made for a view that Bruno almost forgot existed from not being in the more country side of Hawkins.
(Y/n) glanced at the short haired teen out of the corner of his eye and smirked at the spaced out look on the boy's face. "You look like you just seen the outdoors for the first time." He commented, chuckling when Bruno snapped out of it and asked him to repeat what he said with a small blush of embarrassment. He didn't blame him, he forgot about this place sometimes too, it's one of the reasons why he likes living so far away from school. He got to drive past them almost everyday and if he was lucky, he'd see the occasional farmer out in the field.
"Sorry, I don't get out here much. I was caught off guard by how different it is." Bruno apologized while looking over at the teenager in the driver's seat, his blue eyes landing on the relaxed expression that (Y/n) had. It was different to the one that he wore around Catherine or his friends, he wondered if this was how looked when he was alone and didn't have anyone bothering him. Was he relaxed because he didn't have to act happy around his girlfriend or was it because of the scenery around them?
His train of thought was interrupted when they turned down the road that (Y/n) lived on and the big houses came into view, making him shrink back in his seat slightly from intimidation. The thought of having so much money to spend on a house like that in a place like Hawkins was foreign to him. He couldn't understand why somebody would willingly buy an expensive house in their small town, Hawkins wasn't special like the cities that had an actual nightlife or were more into the modern lifestyle.
Bruno sighed as (Y/n) pulled into his driveway and turned off the car, the both of them getting out to head around back to the latter's backyard where they'd be able to go into the woods. The former shivered from the cold but ignored it as he walked through the wooden gate, noticing how different the yard looked when it was daylight. The pool didn't look warm anymore and a few orange and brown leaves were floating on the surface of the water, more scattered around it, while the empty chairs made it seem like nobody was ever home.
The teen let (Y/n) lead him to the other gate and his eyebrows were drawn together when he realized that the other's parents weren't home. "Where are your parents? I don't think I seen anyone come back last night." Bruno asked with curiosity clear in his voice, his eyes flickering back to (Y/n) and waiting for an answer.
(Y/n) effortlessly flipped the latch on the gate before gently pushing it open, the sudden burst of wind sending it crashing against the fence and making the two flinch at the loud noise. (Y/n) walked through and let Bruno go past him then closed it, "My dad's on a business trip and my mom went with him, they only left just yesterday when I was in school." He answered with a small sigh of disappointment at his parents leaving. They left him a note saying that they were going to be gone for about two weeks and that they were counting on him to make sure that the house was still standing when they got back.
He didn't understand them. They wanted him to stop partying all the time and focus on his studies but then they leave him alone in their big, not really empty, house for weeks and not do anything except complete his math homework that was due ages ago. His parents act like everything's fine when they get back, like they didn't just leave their teenage son alone for so long without even a call, and they have the nerve to think that he was going to college or university after high school.
